Types of Poetry
       The 5 W’s Poem
       -uses the five W’s to write a non-rhyming
       poem

Line 1: Who or what is the poem
  about?
Line 2: What action is happening?
Line 3: When does the action take
  place? (a time)
Line 4: Where does the action take
  place? (a place)
Line 5: Why does this action happen?
  (a reason)
Example:
              Melisa
       Went on a road trip
          To Minnesota
      Over the Fourth of July
  To watch her friend get married
      The Cinquain Poem
      -a five-line poem that follows a pattern

Line 1: The Person’s Name
Line 2: Two adjectives describing
  that person
Line 3: Three action words
Line 4: A four-word phrase about
  friendship
Line 5: Nickname or Noun
Example:

              Melisa
        Outgoing, Athletic
   Reading, Cooking, Swimming
       Stick by you always
               Mom
      Other Types of Poetry:
 The “I Am” Poem- describes
  characteristics of yourself
 The Acrostic Poem- the subject of
  the poem is formed by the first
  letters of each line
 The Ballad Poem- retells an event
  with rhymes
 The Color Poem- describes your
  favorite color using the five senses
    The Autobiographical Poem

 Tells all about you
 A way for you to introduce yourself
  to others
 Expresses your thoughts, feelings,
  and beliefs
Line 1: Your first name
Line 2: Four descriptive traits
Line 3: Sibling of…
Line 4: Lover of… (people, ideas)
Line 5: Who feels…
Line 6: Who needs…
Line 7: Who gives…
Line 8: Who fears…
Line 9: Who would like to see…
Line 10: Resident of … (your city)
Line 11: Your last name or another name
  that     describes you
           All About Me
                    Sofia
   Organized, Understanding, Small, Nice
       Sibling of Iris, Miguel, Melisa
              Lover of movies
     Who feels the need to help people
      Who needs more time to relax
        Who gives advice to others
   Who fears she’s not getting any taller
