PRAYER LINE PROGRAM
FASTING AND PRAYER OF AUGUST 03 TO 31; 2011
MONTH’S THEME – THE HOLY BIBLE- OUR SOURCE OF PRAYING
WITH AUTHORITY AND POWER
WEEK’S THEME –“The Communication God Desires”
BIBLE TEXTS – Psalm 34:1-22; Ephesians 3:14-21; Acts 2:1-21; 1
Samuel 1:1-18; John 14:16-31, 15:1-8 .
EXPOSITION – We have reasons to thank God for giving us the grace and
privilege to accept and embrace the greatest and most powerful Book of
ages-‘The Holy Bible’ in our life time. Left to ourselves, we often don’t
know which path leads to life and which way ends in death(Proverbs 14:12;
16:25); we remain in the dark. But through His Word, God sheds light on
our situations and leads us to safety(Psalm 119:105). This Power House-the
Holy Bible, teaches us, enlightens us, strengthens us, energizes us, assures
us, and leads us to pray with authority and power of God working through
us with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
FIRST WEEK –(August 03 to 05)- Week’s Theme: “The Communication God Desires”
Day1: Our God Is Waiting-(Psalm 34:1-15): Psalm 34 is one of three psalms that deal
with the ancient jewish view that the righteous are always blessed according to their
righteousness, and the wicked are always judged according to their wickedness. The
other two psalms are 37 and 73. The Lord welcomes our worship, our prayer, and our
praise. He has told us in His Word to pray all the time (1 Thessalonians 5:17). As He did
with the church in Laodicea in Revelation 3, Christ knocks on the door of our heart and
patiently waits (verse 20). He listens attentively for our call, our cry, our prayer. How
often does He wait in vain? My loved ones, find valuable time ‘to talk with God-He
longs to hear from you.’
Day 2: Can We Really Hear From God?- (1 Kings 19:9-12) –Prophet Elijah’s perception
that he was “the only one left” (1 Kings 19:10, 14) was not correct. He had discounted
the widow of Zarephath(1 Kings 17:7-24) and ignored the 100 prophets that Obadiah
had hidden(1 Kings 18:4). God later revealed that there were 7000 faithful(1 Kings
19:18).Paul commented on Elijah’s experience in Romans 11:2-4-as it was in Elijah’s
days. When Elijah stood before the Lord on Mount Horeb, he didn’t meet Him in the
wind, earthquake, or fire. Rather, God spoke in a “still small voice” (Kings 19:11-12).
God speaks to those who are quiet before Him. Psalm 46:10 says-“Be still, and know
that I am God.” See Elijah’s prayer in 1 Kings 18:20-40. God told us to come boldly into
His presence.
Day 3: Surprise Me !!!-Ephesians 3:14-21)- Do you like surprises? Would you ever dare
say, “Surprise me” to God? A lot of us are a little scared to do that. Yes, we have faith
that God is good and that He loves us. Yet we won’t like what He chooses for us.
Throughout the Bible we read that God delights in doing the unexpected. He folded
back the waters for His people to cross the Red sea on a dry land(Exodus 14:21-22). Or
forgiving and embracing those who repent of their sins(Psalm 130:1-4). Jesus’ Ministry
on earth was filled with miracles: turned water into wine; calmed the storms; healed the
sick; made the blind to see; made the to walk; and raised the dead. Our God is not
confined by our finite imagination(Ephesians 3:20). God’s thoughts and ways are like
ours(Isaiah 55:8). He delights in His children who “trust Him and are willing to say,
Surprise me Lord!!!” Those who let God provide will always be satisfied. Allow the Holy
Spirit in you to surprise you. Do your part. Pray with tenacity and zeal, and He will surely
surprise you in Jesus name.
EXPOSITION- The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are
safe(Proverbs 18:10). Here, Solomon reminded God’s people that God is their “safe
room” and that they can find total security in Him. The name or character of God is
described as a “strong tower.” As a captured city might take refuge in a fortified tower,
so the righteous could run to the Lord and find complete safety. Money might give us a
sense of security but it would be a false security that could lead to laziness, pride, and
destruction. Yet people who are humble can find their complete security in the
unchanging and holy character of God. Therefore, we all need to learn to depend daily
on the Lord and find a high point of safety in the safe room of His name.
SECOND WEEK- (August 10 to 12; 2011)- Week’s Theme: “Pray Your Life Out”
Day 1: Declaration of Dependence(John 15:1-8) - Jesus spoke of a spurned vineyard
owner who was denied the fruit due him(Matthew 21:33-43). Jesus expects us to
produce “fruit worthy of repentance” (Matthew 3:8; Ephesians 5:9)-fruit of our lips
that confess sin and seeks forgiveness (Hosea 14:2) and that praises God for His
forgiveness(Hebrews 13:15). It is the internal fruit of holiness and Christlikeness
(Galatians 5:22-23) and the external fruit of good works (Colossians 1:10). Jesus told His
disciples: “Without Me you can do nothing (John 15:5). The truth is that we live in a web
of dependence, at the center of which is God , in whom all things hold together. The
Norwegian theologian said, “Only he who is helpless can truly pray.” Most parents feel
a pang when the child outgrows dependence, even while knowing the growth to be
healthy and normal. With God, the rules change. We never outgrow dependence, and to
the extent we think we do, we delude ourselves. Prayer is our declaration of
dependence upon the Lord. My friend, please pray as if your life depended upon it. It
does!
Day 2: Truth Or Error(2 Timothy 3:14-17) – Second Timothy 3:16 and 2 Peter 1:19-21
are two key passages that tell us the Bible is the inspired Word of God. The human
writers of the Bible were not afraid to acknowledge that what they spoke or wrote was
given to them by God(Exodus 34:27; Acts 3:18; Hebrews 1:1); through the Holy Spirit(2
Peter 1:21). The Lord Jesus affirmed that it is the Spirit who is the author of Scripture
(Matthew 22:43; Mark12:36). People tend to doubt the basic truth that: “the Word of
God is infallible.” There is no match between the materials in Science journals and the
contents of the Holy Bible. Please flip your Bible to 2 Timothy 2:15, here you’ll find the
evidence that it’s God-inspired(2 Timothy 3:16) and therefore trustworthy. While we
accept the Bible by faith, there’s plenty of evidence that it’s true. Let’s be diligent to
study and share what we learn with others.
Day 3: Distance Yourself (Colossians 3:1-10) – “For you died, and your life is hidden with
Christ in God” (Colossians 3:3). In God’s eyes, believers are dead to the former life of
guilt and sin at conversion. We are to reckon ourselves dead to sin and alive in God
(Romans 6:11). Our new spiritual life in Christ will one day result in bodily resurrection.
Prior to that day of glorification, our lives are said to be “hidden with Christ.” When you
are tuned to Paul’s simple but corrective reminder where he says, “put to death
fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness” (Colossians 3:5): you
become a new person in Jesus Christ. Please, “set mind on things above, not on things
on the earth. The best way to keep sin at a distance is to make sure Jesus stands
between you and temptation.
EXPOSITION – The greatest authority is the name: “Jesus Christ.” The Blood goes in
tandem with the name of Jesus, which carries authority above every other name, as we
see in (Philippians 2:9-11). The Bible tells us that Jesus has been given all authority in
Heaven and on earth(Matthew 28:18). Because the name carries with it His authority
we are instructed to pray in His name: (John 14:12-14). The Holy Spirit is the
indispensable Senior Partner and a Comforter that Jesus sent to us when He was going
back to His Father in heaven- ‘the Ascension of Jesus Christ.”(John 14:16-20).
THIRD WEEK – (August 17 to 19) – Week’s Theme: “The Channel Of Divine Power”
Day 1: The Power Of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-17) – The Feast of Pentecost is also known as
the Feast of Firstfruits. Coming 50 days after Passover, it celebrates the early harvest as
a recognition of God’s provision for His people. Because of what happened on the day of
Pentecost (as seen in Acts 2), we tend to associate the Holy Spirit’s presence and power
with amazing phenomena and large numbers. We forget that a little later the same
people filled with the same Holy Spirit were rejected, flogged, imprisoned, even
executed. But through it all they were ‘powerful witnesses.’ The Holy Spirit’s presence
and power can be evidenced in a dynamic preacher who attracts great audiences. At the
same time, it is imperative to know that the power of Pentecost is not reserved for the
highly gifted. Rather, it is available to all believers in Christ who want to serve Him. Are
you ready for the fire of the Holy Spirit to stir you up for the Kingdom service? NOW is
the best time. Say ‘YES’ to the Lord now as a mantle carrier for the spread of the ‘Good
News’ of Christ to reach all and sundry(Romans 10:13-18). ‘The power of God’s Spirit
gives power to our witness.’
Day 2: True Trust(John 9:1-11) – The blind man’s witness contains key elements of
testimony: ‘the Person of Christ; obedience to His command; and the reward received
by faith.’ “A man called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes and said to me, ‘Go to
the pool of Siloam and wash.’ So I went and washed, and I received my sight.”(John
9:11). Our infirmity is always a tool that God uses to actuate our faith to trust in His
faithfulness. Our circumstances that people ascribe to our sins don’t always fit in to
human perception and the reality of the situation (John 9:3). God is waiting to take His
glory in all our challenges which He knows and allows. When we put all our trust in the
Lord, it gives the greatest joy in having Jesus Christ in our life and living the godly
purpose He has for us. “Trusting God turns problems into opportunities.”
Day 3: Horsepower (Jeremiah 6:16-21) – In the wonderful work of creation, ‘do you
know that the horse shoes had been divinely sharpened so they bite into the ice?’ Most
of us would not want to return to the old-fashioned ways. But more than 2500 years
ago, Jeremiah reminded us that there is nothing more relevant than the truth of the
past. Even though he was regarded as a relic(outmoded practice) of his time, he urged
his neighbors to walk in old paths of truth so that they would find peace and rest for
their souls(Jeremiah 6:16). Today, we can still find rest and peace in Jesus, our eternal
source of truth(Matthew 11:28). “The old truth of God’s Word is ever new.” Embrace
it!
EXPOSITION – This psalm’s superscription(Psalm 63) reads, “A Psalm of David when he
was in the wilderness of Judah.” Whether it was written while being pursued by Saul or
when fleeing from Absalom, everything in this song speaks of a heart focused by a
wilderness experience. There was no desert in David’s heart, though there was a desert
around him. We too may expect to be cast into rough places. In such seasons, may the
‘Eternal Comforter abide with us, and cause us to bless the Lord at all times, making
even the solitary place to become a temple for Jehovah.”
FOURTH WEEK -(August 24 to 26) – Week’s Theme: “The Wilderness Experience”
Day 1: Falling In Love With God (Psalm 63:1-8)- Sometimes, especially when we read
devotionals we treat God’s Word like an express buffet when we wolf it down as fast as
we can and wonder why haven’t learned very much. Like physical food, spiritual food
needs chewing! In this speed-reading style, we miss what God is meaning to show us.
One sure sign is when we learn nothing new from that passage. My soul longs for You;
my flesh longs for You (Psalm 63:1). DO you long for GOD as David did? Do you seek Him
earnestly and pursue Him throughout your day? Your intimacy with the Lord will surely
determine the impact of life. So go before His throne often with confidence because
only He can fill the hunger of your soul. Only by meditating on God’s Word will we get
the most value for our spiritual well-being(Psalm 119:15). “Reading the Bible without
reflecting is like eating without chewing.”
Day 2: Driving In The Dark (Psalm 119:105-112) – Any Word of God in your memory can
be used at every appropriate occasion, especially in crisis times. Verse 105 is the key to
this matter of storing God’s Word in our thinking port- our brain. Try to memorize a
verse daily. Remember, God usually doesn’t show us where He is taking us. He just asks
us to ‘trust Him.’ Our headlights never shine all the way to our destination; they
illuminate only about 160 feet ahead. We trust our headlights. All we really need is
enough light to keep moving forward. God’s Word is like headlights in dark times. It is
full of promises we need to keep us from driving into the ditch of bitterness and despair.
His WORD says that He will never forsake you(Hebrews 13:5). His Word assures us that
He knows the plans He has for us….(Jeremiah 29:11). He tells us that our trials are there
to make us better, not bitter “You won’t stumble in the dark if you walk in the light of
God’s Word.” (James 1:2-4).
Day 3: A New Song In My Heart(Exodus 14:26- 15:2; Psalm 136:10-15) – God’s mighty
deliverance of Israel out of Egypt was such a climatic moment of rescue that Moses led
the Jews in a song of victory and worship(Exodus 15:1-18). We can find great comfort
during times of difficulty in knowing that God has promised that He was, is, and always
will be in control-not only world events, but also over everything in our own lives. In
today’s text God gets the credit for parting the Red Sea to help His people escape from
Pharaoh, even though Moses was the one who raised his rod(Exodus 14:26-27). All the
Israelites and Moses gathered together and sang the Lord’s praises: “Who is like You, O
Lord, among other gods? Who is like You, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing
wonders?”(Exodus 15: 11). God is the source of all that is good. Give Him the glory.
Aren’t you glad He works midnights? “Seeing God at work puts a song in our heart.”
Keep your heart of praises alive. Keep praising Him, because He is always at work(Psalm
136:10-15).
