1) Understand the limitations of traditional rebound testing for peritonitis and be able to apply more accurate alternative physical
examination maneuvers for this clinical entity.
2) Acquire sufficient knowledge of the medical literature on the use of narcotic analgesics for acute abdominal pain to allow them
to confidently use this therapy.
3) Discuss the clinical features of several abdominal conditions in special populations including: appendicitis in pregnancy, acute
abdominal pain in sickle cell disease and the general presentation of abdominal pain in dialysis and HIV infected patients.
