Ron Paul 2012

In America, we've grown accustomed to the fact
that the people running for public office are nothing
more than professional liars. For the common
American citizen, the mere word "politician" makes
the skin crawl. We've all heard countless stories of
corruption, power-lust, back-room deals, and flat
out deception that seems to be common-place
among the people who seek political power. The
allure of this power draws out the worst element of
society; people who look and sound common,
decent, good-hearted and respectable, but are
actually unspeakably corrupt and deceptive; willing
to do or say anything in order to gain more power
and influence.

Are there exceptions? Sure. But overall, the longer
people sit in these seats of power, the more
susceptible they are to the systemic power-grabbing
and "good old boy" deals that everyone knows are
happening, but don't talk about for fear of being
seen as "rude" or "impolite". We all know that the gang on Capitol Hill is corrupt beyond
measure. The first step to recovery is admitting there is a problem.

Public office, especially in Congress, was set up as a seat of sacrifice and servitude, not power and
wealth. It was supposed to be a sacrifice to leave your family and business to go represent your
people, and fight to resist the growth of Government, and usurpation of freedom. Once you were
done with your duty of representing your
people, you simply returned home, and
continued your life. Because the seat of
representative was a sacrifice, it only drew
the best of the best; the people who truly
wanted to serve for the betterment of their
people, regardless of the personal cost.
There was no allure of power or wealth. It
was simply a sacrificial duty that you did
because it was the right thing to do.

These almighty offices are now used
merely for personal comfort, power, and
gain. It is no longer a sacrifice to serve as
a representative in Congress. In
fact, it is quite the opposite. Our
congress-people now live as
affluent, powerful aristocrats. An
aristocracy is a form of
government in which a few of the
most prominent and elite citizens
rule. America can also be
described as a corporate-run
oligarchy in which all power is
vested in the dominant class. Our
representatives no longer
represent their people; they represent the groups who they can gain the most from. They live lives
of luxury, benefit from life-long, tax-payer funded pensions, make exceptions to laws such as
insider trading, bend to lobbying from giant corporations, and introduce and pass bills that benefit
the most wealthy and powerful groups, at the expense of their constituents. They no longer have
regard for the Constitution, or for protecting the rights and freedoms of the public. Regardless of
which letter is behind their name, they all tow the same line; the growth of Government power,
the collusion between Government and Corporations, and the erosion of freedom and liberty.

We have grown accustomed to this sad reality. Our Government officials sit in big, intimidating
white buildings with giant pillars and high ceilings. They carry impressive-sounding titles, and
have fancy, official-looking seals on their desks. They exude power, and it makes us all feel very
small, powerless and insignificant. We know there is something seriously wrong in Washington,
but feel as if it's too far gone. There's nothing we can do to change it, so therefore we keep voting
for the same people. Election after election we put into office men and women who we know are
not the best people for the job, but what choice do we have? It's not like our votes are going to
change anything anyways. They're too far gone. There's
too much corruption. We know they're all liars, and can't
be trusted, but that's just the way things are...

What if there really was another option? What if there
was a guy in Congress who really didn't care about the
wealth or power, but was simply looking to spread
knowledge, and raise up a generation of Americans who
would inform themselves, fill these offices of power, and
quit settling for the lesser of two evils? What if there was
a man who really did understand his duty as
representative, who knew what the Constitution said,
and who heeded the warnings of the founders that a
Government that goes unchecked will grow completely
out of control, and suck the wealth and freedom from
the country without exception? What if this man didn't
shy away from controversial truth-telling, but rather
spoke most frequently about the very things that he
knew would make him unpopular? What if this man was
willing to endure the smears and the baseless attacks if it
meant that his message would get spread, and influence
the minds of the nation for real change? What if the only
thing this man cared about was putting it all on the line to
pave the way for the generation of people who would
come after him, and affect this real change, even if he
never saw it in his lifetime? We wouldn't believe it. That
man would be labeled a kook. Those kinds of ideas
would seem absurd, and be shut out of the public
discussion. We've come to tolerate the status quo, and
even become comfortable with the way things are. A man
who questioned our most basic assumptions would be
seen as crazy, or dangerous. A politician who didn't just
seek endless power would be too strange for us to
comprehend. Yet, this man is alive today. His name is
Ron Paul. He is 76 years old, yet he still goes out there
day after day, endures the smears and insults, speaks
truth no matter the cost, and puts his shovel to the
ground to carve out the path that must be dug for the
generations that follow. That is his motivation. That is his
reason for running. Ron Paul doesn't want to become President. Ron Paul doesn't seek power.
Ron Paul isn't interested in accolades, praise, or prominence. There is only one thing that drives
Ron Paul day after day, and that is the possibility to change hearts and minds, lay the groundwork,
and assist in a movement that will last long after he is gone. This became obvious to me after Dr.
Paul gave my friend, Jason Greene, a Congressional candidate in Missouri's 5th district, his
endorsement, and pledged his support and help with Jason's campaign. At that moment, I realized
what Ron Paul, and this Presidential Campaign is all about. It's not about him. The Ron Paul
Presidential Campaign isn't about the Oval Office. It's not about a politician. It's not about a man.
It's about a better future. It's about a true, Patriotic American doing everything possible to make
this world a better place, not only for his children and grandchildren, but for us, and our children
and grandchildren. Dr. Paul wins either way. If he gets into the White House, that is 4 years of
continuous truth telling that the media can't ignore. If he doesn't become President, the sacrifices
he made will still be taken up by the generations to come. Either way, American History will be
changed by this passionate, humble little Texas doctor named Ron Paul.
