What’s the Melting Pot
• Another expression for America, which
developed in the 19th century
• This expression describes the action of
forming the American nation out of
different ethnic groups and immigrants into
a new race of men.
The concept of the Melting Pot
• Based on the conception, that every
immigrant left his prejudices and habits
behind.
• All ethnic backgrounds disappeared in this
melting process
• Everyone had to be ready to form a new
union.
The Meeting of Nations
• America was seen as a save harbour for
refugees and imigrants from all parts of the
world.
• Massive immigration started.
• Most immigrants from southern- and
eastern Europe
