Dear Parents, Carers & Friends,

Last Tuesday was indeed cold, but it didn’t stop us planting bulbs amongst the new trees! Reception class and
Year 1 children had great fun digging up the turf, making holes and putting narcissi bulbs into the ground. Now,
we just wait for them to flower!

Friday evening was great fun. A coach full went to the Bath pantomime. As usual, our children were well
behaved – so much so that the stewards asked us to choose four of our children to go on stage to sing with
WidowTwanky and Silly Billy. Great fun was had by all!

This week our PTFA, the Wish Club, met to decide on event dates for the rest of this school year. Dates are at
the end of this letter. The first event for our children to look forward to is the Valentine’s Disco on Thursday
17th February, 6.00-8.00pm. Do join our group of parents to help make final plans for it on Monday 14th February
at 2.00pm.

Tomorrow, Saturday, some of our Year 3 and Year 4 children and their parents will enjoy watching Bath City
Football Club play at home – let’s hope for a home win!

One of our SMSAs, Mrs Clifton, will be leaving us on Friday 4th February, after ten years working with our
children. She will be very much missed. We wish her all the best. Mrs Braithwaite will join our team of SMSAs.

“Bedtime Story Night” was very successful last year. We look forward to welcoming lots of children, in their
pyjamas, with teddies and pillows, at our next evening – Monday 7th February, 5.00pm-6.00pm.

Other events during the next two weeks are:

1st February, 10.25am Year 2 Assembly for parents
8th February, 10.25am Year 3 Assembly for parents
9th February, KS2 – “ESCape” about cyber bullying
11th February, 9.15am SEAL assembly. You are invited to join us for our end of term reflection and
                               celebration of “Going for Goals”.

Important information

A lot of our children enjoy ICT games which can be played on computers, Xboxes etc. It has come to our
attention that several of our children are playing games that are not suitable for their age. We advise that you
exercise control over what your child has access to in your home and in friend’s or families’ houses. Age ratings
are on games for a reason. Children can all too quickly become desensitized to violence and horror, leading to
problems as they grow older.

Following a letter from the Independent Chair of Bath & North East Somerset Safeguarding Children Board, I
draw your attention to www.meningitisuk.org, a site that will raise your awareness of the symptoms of
meningitis. This illness can develop very quickly, so it is important to know the symptoms and take prompt
action, should you suspect your child has it.

Bath & North East Somerset Council, Catering Services, regularly have part-time opportunities for motivated and
reliable people for casual vacancies. Interested applicants should telephone 01225 394424 for an application
form. Appointment to posts where there may be contact with children or people from other vulnerable groups is
subject to an Enhanced CRB background check. The rate of pay is £6.62 per hour.

Would you like to know more about child development? Would you like to help your children become more self
confident and improve their social skills? Would you like to develop your self-confidence?
Then the “Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities” programme is for you – parent, carer, father or
mother. The next course is starting in March and will be run by our Parent Support Advisers, Ellie Nowell and
Karen Eyre. Contact Karen on 07530 263230 for more information.
