Grades K4-2: Day 1 Objectives:
Walking: Introduce Kindersite or Starfall Reading Sections
Jogging: Word Processing Skill Lessons 1, 2 or 3 (saving is optional)
Running: PowerPoint ABC Book or Word Processing: About Me Sentences
Preparing for computer lab session:
1. Ensure that a shortcut to the “ORC” is on each desktop
2. Ensure that Flash is installed in each computer (required for Feed Freddy)
3. Ensure that there are stickers on the “left mouse button” and “Enter Key”
4. Be sure to try each of the sections on the web sites yourself
Common Early Learner Problem - students get in the wrong sections
* Easiest Solution: Exit the program, then open again
Lesson Overview: Students should open “ORC”, then click the “Grades K4-2” tab:
Walking Level:
1. Download and read “Early Learning Guide” which will provide detailed
instructions for working with early learners along with the programs to use first
2. Ask student to click on Kindersite
3. Ask students to click on Goodnight Moon and color the picture using 5 of each color
4. Ask students to Feed Freddy: Numbers, Letters, Colors and Shapes. Ask students,
“can anyone can tell what is happening to Freddy?”
Jogging Level:
1. Pass out Word Skill Lessons Handout
2. Ask students to open “Word Skills Template” (saving is optional) from ORC
3. Ask student to type everything on the page filling in the blanks as they go.
4. After students have finished 1 paragraph ask them to go back to Kindersite
Running Level:
1. Download and print and read through the PowerPoint ABC Book guide
2. Ask students to open the “ABC Book Template” (saving is optional)
3. Guide students in creating slides as suggested in the guide
Classroom Smart board Suggestions:
#1 Number Bridge and several others from Toy Theatre make great group activities
#2 Click in to the “Stories Section” of Kindersite for interactive story telling
