Joint Chapter Meeting with Manhattan Group
It was a real success! We had 72 in attendance at the Brookville Hotel on August 10th, with thirty-three
of these from the Manhattan chapter. We actually had to turn people away because of the space
limitations. We had delicious food and a wonderful speaker. Thank you to those who helped plan this
Maureen Toll and Don Weiser from the Chamber of Commerce will be speaking. The Chamber offers
many services to Human Resource Professionals.
We will be celebrating Bosses Day! If you bring your boss, you and your boss eat free! Phil Hayes, Vice
President of Operations for The Arnold Group and Wichita SHRM Chapter President, will be speaking on
how Human Resources can further/support the mission of an organization and how HR plays a strategic

Everyone Loves a Parade!
Our chapter is going to be entering a float in the Santa Fe Days Parade,
Saturday, Sept. 23. We’ll be meeting at 9:30 and the parade starts at 10:00 a.m.
We need volunteers to ride on the float. Your kids and grandkids are welcome
to ride with you on the float! We’ll be giving away candy as well! If you are
interested in riding along, email firstname.lastname@example.org. This is an opportunity to get our
chapter’s name in front of the community!
Our SHRMA chapter is committed to giving back to our community. The chapter will be
providing educational opportunities to the local area business community. The chapter is
committing to a partnership with the Chamber of Commerce to provide affordable training to
employees of local business who may not have the funds to send employees out of town to
expensive seminars. Our chapter will be providing speakers for seminars throughout the year
to be presented at the Chamber.
Our first seminar will be held at the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce Development Center
on Tuesday, October 31, from 8:00 – 11:00am. Paul Hedlund will be presenting “Basic Tools
for Supervision”. Registration is $10 per person.
The training will focus on the very basics of supervision. A formal flyer and advertising will be
coming soon. These seminars are not necessarily targeting HR Professionals.

Ask not what your SHRM chapter can do for you; ask what you can do for
your SHRM chapter!
Even though we are a little more than half way through 2006, it’s time for members to begin
thinking about further involvement with our chapter in 2007. There are many ways to serve.
We have a Programs Committee and a Vendor Committee that require a minimal time
commitment. The following are the different positions of the Executive Committee. These are
appointed by the President.
Programs Chair Membership Chair
Legislative Chair Newsletter Chair
Awards Chair Education Chair
The following positions are elected by the chapter:
Filling these positions is essential to having a successful chapter. Serving the chapter is a
great way to get to know your fellow HR colleagues and network with a great group of people!
If you are interested in volunteering for any of the positions or have an interest in knowing more
about the position, please email email@example.com. The following is a list of those who
currently serve on the Executive Committee and their email addresses if you would like to
inquire about their duties and time commitment. Elections for the board will be held in October.
Appointments to the Executive Committee are made following the elections.

Even if you are just thinking about getting more involved, please contact Karen Weber. A
chapter member does not have to be nominated by another member in order to be considered
to serve. Please consider volunteering for 2007!
Are you attending the State SHRM Conference?...
For those who are interested, our chapter will meet in the lobby of the Capitol Plaza Hotel (by
the front check in desk) following our last speaker on Thursday, September 21, at 6:00 p.m. to
carpool to dinner.
