Mind of Christ
VI
A day in Christ’s life
Luke 5
• it was, as the multitude pressed about Him to
hear the word of God, that He stood by the
Lake of Gennesaret, 2and saw two boats
standing by the lake; but the fishermen had
gone from them and were washing their nets.
3Then He got into one of the boats, which
was Simon's, and asked him to put out a little
from the land. And He sat down and taught
the multitudes from the boat.
4When He had stopped speaking, He said to
Simon, "Launch out into the deep and let
down your nets for a catch."
Luke 5
• 5But Simon answered and said to Him,
"Master, we have toiled all night and caught
nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let
down the net." 6And when they had done this,
they caught a great number of fish, and their
net was breaking. 7So they signaled to their
partners in the other boat to come and help
them. And they came and filled both the
boats, so that they began to sink. 8When
Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus'
knees, saying, "Depart from me, for I am a
sinful man, O Lord!"
Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch
men
A day with Christ
• Peter start loving Christ, but he did not truly know
Him well
• Christ has intentions to really have Peter as a true
disciple.
• Jesus used Peter’s boat. Go a little farther.
• Peter accepted “little” it is not yet costing him
much.
• Then, Jesus asked peter to go DEEPER.
• Jesus intentions in every one to get deep with Him
A day with Christ
1- Go a little deep: “It is enough that I am a
little different”, It is enough that God is
preaching from my boat!! In the retreat you
are a little far but if we stop at this we did
not know Him enough or on a personal
level ( Peter/Jesus) with no others.
A day with Christ
2- Launch out into the deep: In spite of his
disgruntlement Peter went along but not
planning to drop the nets( they just cleaned
the nets). Above logic
3- They caught so much: Peter was shocked,
start asking for assistance. The nets were full
to almost make the two boats sink!!. He did
not realize Jesus when He cured his mother
in law but once it touched his own work that
was different. He was ready to be a disciple.
A day with Christ
• 7- Fisher for men: Peter tasted Jesus Glory in His
generosity(as if He was paying peter for a boat
rental). Peter remembered his sins and wants to
disappear.
• 8- Left all nets, boats, people, fish and followed: It
is not enough that He blesses your house but He
wants the full heart until you are ready to follow
even when you feel worthless.
A day with Christ
• And it happened when He was in a certain city, that
behold, a man who was full of leprosy saw Jesus;
and he fell on his face and implored Him, saying,
"Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean."
13Then He put out His hand and touched him, saying,
"I am willing; be cleansed." Immediately the leprosy
left him. 14And He charged him to tell no one, "But go
and show yourself to the priest, and make an offering
for your cleansing, as a testimony to them, just as
Moses commanded."
15However, the report went around concerning Him
all the more; and great multitudes came together to
hear, and to be healed by Him of their infirmities. 16So
He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and
prayed . Lk5: 12-18
A day with Christ
1- fell on his face and implored Him
2- Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean: he
is physically and psychologically sick, no one has
dared to touch him for years.
3- He put out His hand and touched him: Jesus touched
the man after many years. Christ’s mind realized the
psychological needs that no one else would feel or
know
4- I am willing; be cleansed: In their afflictions He was
afflicted ( Is 59.). This touch could have cost Jesus to
have all distant from Him.
I am willing; be cleansed
• Jesus is willing to give all for a sinner to come
5- 14And He charged him to tell no one, "But go and
show yourself to the priest: No one will believe him
anyway. To explain for him the protocol of healing a
leper. Two birds are brought, one is slaughtered but
the blood of the dead splashed on the live bird and
on the leper; then let to fly to explain resurrection.
• Touching the leper will explain the economy of
the cross and magnitude of salvation which
otherwise would have needed a week of
purification and many other rituals which are all
fulfilled in the cross.
A day with Christ
• 6- 16So He Himself often withdrew into the
wilderness and prayed :
• After all of these miracles He withdraw for
praying. The necessity of withdrawing
A day with Christ
• Now it happened on a certain day, as He was
teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of
the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of
Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the
Lord was present to heal them. 18Then behold, men
brought on a bed a man who was paralyzed, whom
they sought to bring in and lay before Him. 19And
when they could not find how they might bring him in,
because of the crowd, they went up on the housetop
and let him down with his bed through the tiling into
the midst before Jesus.
20When He saw their faith, He said to him, "Man, your
sins are forgiven you."
A day with Christ
1- 18Then behold, men brought on a bed a man who was
paralyzed, whom they sought to bring in and lay
before Him: They did not care about the presence of
more important people around Him.
2- they could not find how they might bring him in,
because of the crowd, they went up on the housetop
and let him down with his bed through the tiling into
the midst before Jesus.
What was Jesus thinking? Improper behavior in the
eyes of every one except Jesus’
3-20When He saw their faith,: He saw their hope, faith,
love.
4- Man, your sins are forgiven you." : Forgiveness is more
valuable than cure even when it was not requested.
A day with Christ
• Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who
can forgive sins but God alone?"
22But when Jesus perceived their thoughts,
He answered and said to them, "Why are you
reasoning in your hearts? 23Which is easier,
to say, "Your sins are forgiven you,' or to say,
"Rise up and walk'? 24But that you may know
that the Son of Man has power on earth to
forgive sins"--He said to the man who was
paralyzed, "I say to you, arise, take up your
bed, and go to your house."
A day with Christ
• 23Which is easier, to say, "Your sins are
forgiven you,' or to say, "Rise up and
walk'? To us the answer would be
“forgiven”, but to His mind it will cost
His Blood.
• In the prayer of the anointment of the
sick; “If you intend to cure him fine but if
it is not your will please forgive him.
A day with Christ
• After these things He went out and saw a tax collector
named Levi, sitting at the tax office. And He said to
him, "Follow Me." 28So he left all, rose up, and
followed Him.
29Then Levi gave Him a great feast in his own house.
And there were a great number of tax collectors and
others who sat down with them. 30And their scribes
and the Pharisees complained against His disciples,
saying, "Why do You eat and drink with tax collectors
and sinners?"
31Jesus answered and said to them, "Those who are
well have no need of a physician, but those who are
sick. 32I have not come to call the righteous, but
sinners, to repentance."
A day with Christ
• Matthew when called; he was very shocked
because he is completely undeserving. Christ's
mind knew of his heart and readiness. So He
called him
• Follow Me; the calling varies of one versus
another. Peter needed fish, boats..etc. while
Matthew was just a word.
• House of tax collector: Him entering into
Matthew’s house will cost him a lot! His mind
was more focused on the person and not on
people's opinion.
