DENTZLER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Gayle L. Clapp, Principal December 19, 2007
The Dentzler School staff wishes you and your family a wonderful winter holiday season!
School of Distinction – We are very proud of Dentzler School! The State Superintendent is recognizing
Dentzler as a School of Distinction. This program recognizes schools that have a high percentage of all
students including students with disabilities who showed outstanding performance on this past year’s
state Ohio Achievement Test.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! – Many thanks to the PTA volunteers and especially to Shannon
Weber who organized our Santa Shop. We had many happy shoppers during this event which was held
December 6th and 7th.
PTA Brochure Fundraiser – The top two classrooms for our PTA fundraiser were Mrs. Messinger’s class
for first place and Mrs. Rowden’s class for second place. Both of these classes will be given a popsicle
party. Many thanks to everyone who supported our PTA fundraiser!
Safety Patrol News – The Safety Patrol had their annual holiday party on December 18th courtesy of
our PTA. Everyone enjoyed pizza, salad, pop, chips and treats. The girls and boys had a wonderful time
and they sincerely thank the PTA and Sherri Spagnola who organized this event.
David Minor has been chosen as the December Guard of the Month. David will wear the Gold Badge for
his outstanding dependability. Congratulations, David!
Students of the Month – We are very proud of the following Dentzler students who are our December
Students of the Month. They are: Ben Bosela, Tiffany Broski, George Carrubba, Alexandra Eberling,
Kevin Flors, Kari Gaebelein, Marta Kalinowski, Nazariy Korchevskiy, Madison Moyers, Solomiya Pushchak,
Annabella Red, Christopher Sharp, Andrew Swearman and Nicole Szokai.
The names of these students were drawn from all of our December Students of the Week. They will be
honored at a “Lunch with the Principal” on December 19th. Congratulations to all of our Students of the
Week who had especially good behavior during their lunch/noon recess period.
PTA Reflections Program – The Dentzler School PTA is sponsoring the Cultural Arts Reflections
Program through the Ohio PTA and the National PTA. The purpose of this program is to encourage
creative expression among our students.
All kindergarten through sixth grade students are encouraged to submit entries in the areas of the
visual arts, literature, musical composition and photography. The theme for this year is “I can make a
difference by . . . . .”
Reflection entries are due by Monday, January 7th. This would be a great project to do over Winter
Community Service Project – The Dentzler Student Council created holiday artwork and Mrs. Trende’s
class also made winter artwork. These projects were given to Parma Hospital’s Elder Day Care Center,
one of our CBS (Community Business Schools) Partners.
FYI (For Your Information) – To provide greater communication about our school district don’t forget
to access Images Online at http://www.parmacityschools.org/imagesonline. Also, our district is
broadcasting TV programming daily on COX Communications Channel 45. This is a great way to see
school district events that are taking place.
Rock around the Clock – Dentzler School’s Literacy Initiative Theme which is taken from our 50th
anniversary celebration will begin second semester on Monday, January 28th. In conjunction with our
current Accelerated Reader (AR) Program, our kindergarten through sixth grade students will be
striving to read as a building goal 50 million words as they read their AR books. Please encourage your
child to read at home (kindergarten students will be read to at school) to help us reach our building goal.
There will be a building celebration in May for those students who have reached their AR goals.
2008–2009 Parma City School District Calendar – Next year’s school calendar was recently adopted by
our Board of Education. It is attached to our newsletter.
Parent-Teacher Conferences – An article on parent-teacher conferences is also attached to our
newsletter. Conferences will occur on February 7th.
