Dear Parents, Carers and Governors,

I would like to update you on our Child Protection procedures at BJS. I am the Designated Senior Person for child protection
and if you have any concerns at all then please come in immediately to talk to me. If I am unavailable then please speak to
Mrs Whitlock. The Governor with responsibility for Child Protection is our Parent Governor, Samantha Perkins, and she has had
the Child Protection training. Please note that all of our policies are in the school office and you are welcome to view them at
any time.

This has been a very busy and productive half term. Please have a lovely break and we will see you again on Tuesday 1 st

Attention all Budding Artists! - The School Council would like to launch a competition called THE GREAT WALL OF
NATURE. This is open to all children at BJS, to design artwork for the wall which separates the two playgrounds. The theme
must be NATURE; other than that, you are free to be as creative as possible! Please create your design on A4 paper, and
remember to keep it fairly simple and eye-catching so that it would work well on a larger scale if recreated. The deadline for
this competition is the Wednesday after half term (2nd November) and entries must be handed in to your School Council
Representative on or before this date. The School Council will then judge these entries and choose which ones will be
included in the wall design. There will be a prize for all of those chosen, and of course your work will be on display for all to
see! Good luck!
Swimming - We would like to remind parents that according to County Council Guidelines, when swimming with School, the
children are required to wear trunks or a costume and wear a swimming hat for their lessons. The County Guidelines for safe
Practice say
‘It is important that swimming clothing is relatively tight fitting so as to minimise the effect of drag that water logged clothing
can create.’
Db Primary - Well done to all those who have been accessing the Learning Platform. Keep your eyes open over half term for
new items on the pages! Remember it’s
Fair trade Chocolate – As part of our upper school creative curriculum unit on Fair-trade we are completing a study on
chocolate. We have planned to carry out some artwork using chocolate wrappers and need as many brought into school as
possible! We are not asking you to eat more chocolate (I am sure we would all love to!) but to collect the wrappers when you
do in order to support us. Many thanks.
Blackbirds Assembly – Our uptake for Bikeability has been so good that many children from the Blackbirds will be cycling
on Wednesdays for the next five weeks. We are therefore moving the Class Assembly to Monday 21 st November at 2.30pm.
We apologise for any inconvenience but hope you will still be able to join us.
Year 4 & 6 Residentials – Deposits for both Residential visits should have been paid today. Payment record cards have
been distributed for all those who have paid. Further payments can now be made at your convenience but please ensure you
send in the payment card with your remittance. If you have not yet sent in the deposit please send it in to school on
Tuesday 1st November.
Lost Property – We have had a number of children who have lost their named sweatshirts recently. Please could you check
that you do not have somebody else’s when you are washing them over the holidays!

Cooking Club – Children in Cooking Club are asked to bring in £5.00 to cover cooking costs for the next 5 weeks. Thank you.
