Spelling 3 Times Each: apple, apple, apple OR apple
Spelling Triangles: Each word is written starting with the first letter then adding a letter each time.
Example: “apple” a
Spelling Sentences: Each sentence must be at least 7 words long. Sentences must also make sense. Also, the sentences cannot
start with the same word more than twice. Capitalization, punctuation, and grammar must be correct.
Spelling ABC Order: apple

Rainbow Spelling: Write each spelling word with a pencil first, then trace over each one twice with a different color (colored pencil
Practice Spelling Test: An adult needs to give the student a practice spelling test on paper, which will be turned in. All words that
are misspelled need to be written correctly 3 times ON the practice test paper and turned in the following day.
Fluency Poem: Each Tuesday, a new poem will be brought home in the Fluency Notebook. Students read it to two different
people, who will SIGN on the poem. The same two people can used throughout the week. The listeners are more than welcome to
write encouraging comments on the paper. The poem will be read two times every day from Tuesday to Tuesday (just once on the
RAH: Read at home for at least 20 minutes. Student must write down the title of the book read. Parents must sign on the parent
Vocabulary 2 Times Each: Write each word AND it’s definition 2 times each. Underline the vocabulary words.
Example: cafeteria: a place to eat
cafeteria: a place to eat
Vocabulary Worksheet: Write the page number the vocabulary word is located on in the reading story. After that, write the
WHOLE sentence the word was used in.
Example: cafeteria p. 24_ Danny and Gary decided to have lunch in the cafeteria.
Vocabulary Story: Children become authors by creating an interesting story using all of the vocabulary words. Underline the

Vocabulary Card Definitions: Write the definition of each vocabulary word on the back of its card.
Oral Vocab Sentences: Students practice reading the vocab words with an adult and discussing the meanings of the words.
MEMORIZING THE MEANING IS NOT KNOWING THE MEANING! Adults should have students give examples, if possible,
of the words’ meanings. Then, students practice using the vocabulary words in sentences. The adult needs to give feedback, and
SIGN on the line drawn in the planner.
