John Macready is not who you think he is. Although he has a background in textile manufacturing and has
been involved in every aspect of the apparel business from fabric selection to quality control, cutting to sewing,
shipping to sales; John has a wider and deeper focus. Although you might find him sharply dressed at local posh
events and ringside at local fashion shows, his heart is elsewhere.

John was hired as the Operations Manager for Fashion Group International of Dallas in 2006. Since that time
John has helped to develop Fashion Group’s contact database and social media outlets, as well as organize and
facilitate some of Fashion Group’s most prestigious annual events such as the Rising Star Awards, Four-Legged
Fashion and Career Day. The annual Career Day event brings over 1200 students from over 40 different universities
and colleges to participate in career-related seminars and design competitions at the Dallas World Trade Center.

But John is passionate about big ideas, philosophical ideas to be precise. In 2001 John earned his Bachelor
of Arts degree in Religious Education from North Central University, graduating cum laude. In 2007 John began work
on a Master of Arts in Philosophy at the University of Dallas. In 2009 he was one of five students accepted into the
Doctoral program at the University of Dallas and awarded a full tuition scholarship. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in
Philosophy. His interests include Shoah studies, fim and ethics. Recently, John was invited to present a paper on the
film The Reader at the “Holocaust Representation Since 1975 Conference” held at The University of Chester in
Chester, England. John is the author of the blog The Relative Absolute where he writes about topics related to film,
philosophy, ethics and technology. John published his first short story, “The Panel” in Ambitions Magazine in
December 2004 and is currently working on a memoir called Subverting Gravity.

John is also passionate about justice. John works closely with the Prison Entrepreneurship Program,
visiting prisons and teaching a class called “Rebranding the Brand Called You” each semester at the University of
Dallas to men recently released from the Texas prison system. Through this class John encourages the men to mine
their pasts for assets in order to develop their strengths, overcome their weaknesses, and rebrand themselves for the
marketplace. This work allows John to bring his fashion related experience and his passion for big ideas and justice

The opportunity to meet other professionals in the fashion industry is one of the chief missions of Fashion
Group International of Dallas. This mission couldn’t have been more auspicious for John. In 2006, John met the
woman of his dreams at the Texas’ Next Top Designer event: Valda Gonzales. The two were married in 2008 and
spend their free time reading, watching films, and travelling. John has two teenage children: Dane (19) and Hannah
