INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP COACH
MINIMUM TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• Masterʼs Degree in Educational Administration & Supervision or enrolled in a
Leadership Licensure Program
• Valid Tennessee Professional Teaching License
• Tenure with Shelby County Schools
• Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience as a classroom teacher
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work across academic disciplines with various audiences
• Proficient in the use of computer applications to include word processing, spreadsheet
and database application
• Such alternatives as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable
REPORTS TO: Director of Early Childhood and Elementary Education
Director of Middle and Secondary Education
JOB GOAL: To help provide orientation, training and support for newly employed teachers
and maintain instructional support to all teachers and schools as designated by the
Department of Curriculum and Accountability.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assists with orientation of newly employed teachers prior to the opening of school.
2. Provides support to both tenured and non-teachers in classroom management
procedures, instructional issues and teaching strategies as designated by the building
administrator.
3. Models effective instructional practices, behavior management strategies, assessment
techniques and directed teaching methods.
4. Provides professional development workshops as directed by the Department of
Curriculum and Accountability.
5. Communicates and collaborates effectively with new teachers, central office staff and
local school administrators.
6. Collects and compiles statistical data as needed for accountability and program
development.
7. Makes initial and ongoing teacher visits, which are coordinated through the
Department of Curriculum and Accountability and the school administration.
8. Improves professional skills and knowledge, assumes educational leadership roles,
and performs duties in a professional, honest, and responsible manner.
9. Uses technology to effectively support the classroom instructional environment and as
a communication tool for the school.
10. Performs such other duties as assigned by the Director of Early Childhood and
Elementary Education and the Director of Middle School and Secondary Education.
The Instructional Leadership Coach is a ten (10) month position with a maximum assignment
of two years. Salary is based on the teacher salary schedule plus a stipend.
