of Internet Phone
What are Voice over IP phones? What are the
different types? And what are its advantages?
VoIP is a technology which converts analog to
digital signal and sends them through the internet.
There are three types of VoIP phones.
One is Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA). ATA
connects traditional telephone to the net. It is
simple to assemble and use, and it is cheap.
Another is IP Phone Service which is hosted. A
central IP soft switch is used which connects IP
phones to the net.
This technology doesn’t need analog to digital
conversion. It has an ethernet connector which
connects to your router directly and process calls.
Third type is Computer to Computer. You will need a
headset, microphone, speakers and sound card.
Example of this are Skype and Yahoo Messenger.
The VoIP technology is very beneficial to business
since it will save a lot of money on long distance
Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Trunking is another
service which will cut off your phone to traditional
network and directly connect to the net.
The SIP soft switch will then route the call to the
destination. This helps to reduce local and long
distance calls cost by routing through the net.
With the VoIP technology as a major development
in internet telephony, many Internet provider VoIP
phones have evolved in giving better services.
