GIS Intern for Baltimore City Department of Recreation & Parks
The Baltimore City Department of Recreation & Parks is looking for a part time intern to assist in their
daily departmental GIS operations. The applicant should be a sharp-minded student or professional who
is responsible and has problem solving ability, attention to detail, and ability to work independently. The
position requires a background in ArcGIS and working with computers.
1-2 years experience with the following:
ArcGIS 9 or 10 (ArcView, ArcCatalog, ArcToolbox)
Creating & editing feature classes, shapefiles & attribute tables
Familiarity with both raster & vector files
Frequently using Microsoft Office software (Word, Powerpoint, Excel)
Using PC computers running Windows XP or Windows 7
Ability to work well and communicate with a team
Interest in city parks and recreation, urban park analysis and research, outdoor recreation guides and
publications, or urban forestry applications using GIS
Update park maps and feature classes (layers) using aerial photographs and field work.
Respond to basic park map or data requests.
Use various map viewers to produce printed maps by request.
Identify property ownership information and create maps showing parcel boundaries.
Assist the full time Geospatial Analyst with department GIS projects.
