United Nations Survey of Crime Trends and Operations of Criminal Justice Systems (UN-CTS) - 2010
The UN-CTS started in 1978, with the objective of collecting statistical data on crime and the main components of criminal justi ce systems from Member states. The Economic and
Social Council, in its resolution 1984/48 of 25 May 1984, requested the Secretary -General to maintain and develop the United Nat ions crime-related database by continuing to
conduct surveys of crime trends and operations of criminal justice systems.

This UN-CTS questionnaire covers the period 2010 and is presented in Excel format in the six official languages of the United Nations. In -line with recommendations of the
Economic and Social Council and inter -governmental expert working groups, the questionnaire has been simplified and improved in order to encourage more Member states to
report in a coordinated and integrated way.

The questionnaire is being distributed through the Permanent Missions to the United Nations. In cooperation with the United N ations Statistics Division and the Statistical Office of
the European Union, copies are sent to the National Statistical Offices and/or to the Experts appointed as members of the Wor king Group on Statistics on Crime and Criminal
Justice in the countries of the European Union.

• Completion of this questionnaire requires the appointment of a coordinating officer in each country.

• The coordinating officer should distribute the questionnaire to relevant police and law enforcement, prosecution, court, and prison authorities and to the government
institution responsible for crime victimization surveys within the country in accordance with the 'instructions for completion'. The officer is then responsible for returning the
  completed, consolidated, response to UNODC.

• Coordinating officers are asked to wait until all parts of the questionnaire are received from national authorities before returning to UNODC. Please also ensure that contact
details of respondents from each authority are correctly provided in the relevant spaces.
