2nd September 2009

Dear Parents and Carers,

We hope that you had an enjoyable and safe holiday. It is lovely to see all the children back to
school and settling into their classes. We would like to extend a warm welcome to our new
pupils and their parents to our school.

Breakfast Club
Breakfast club will return next Monday 7th September 2009. Children from Reception class to
Year 6 are eligible to come along. Breakfast club starts at 8.00 a.m and the last breakfast will be
served at 8.35 a.m. Children who arrive after 8.35 a.m. will need to wait in the school yard.
Breakfast club is free to all children. If you wish your child to be included please complete the
attached form and return it to the main office.

School Uniform
The children look lovely in their school uniform. All items are available to purchase from the
school office. If your size is not in stock new deliveries will be arriving next week, Please see Jess
in the office. We also have reading bags available.

School Meals
The cost of school meals from September 2009 has INCREASED to £1.90 per day - £9.50
per week. This slight increase ensures that the Catering Services continues to provide the
highest quality food. (This rise is not imposed from the school)

Free School Dinners
All parents who are entitled to free school meals should now have registered at Dylan Thomas
School. Children who have not registered will either have to bring a packed lunch or pay for a
school meal. Please see Mrs Smale if you need any help.

Our school day commences at 9.00 a.m and finishes at 3.30 p.m - (Nursery 9.00 am – 11.30 am).
Can I remind parents that if children are not in school for registration then they will receive an
absent mark for the morning session, this will automatically affect their attendance figures.
Subsequently our Education Welfare Officer will be informed and a visit will be made to the home.

These are the following arrangements we have made for the start and end of the day. Please
ensure your children are collected from the appropriate part of the building.
Class Start of the day End of the day
Miss Brown Little yard Main front entrance
Miss Davies Little Yard Main front entrance

Mrs Catto Main Yard Rear of school

To maintain Health and Safety systems will parents leave their child with the class teacher and not
escort them into the building and classrooms.

This is an exciting time of the year. We want to help all children and parents settle into the new
school year. We hope you will support us with our routines. If you have any concerns or issues
please make an appointment to come and see me.

We have arranged the school photographer for Friday September 25th. We will send consent
forms and requests for family or individual photographs nearer this date.

Year 6 will start swimming every Monday from the 7th September 2009 and year 4 and 5
will go every Friday morning from the 11th September 2009. Swimming caps are available from
the school office at a price of £2.00. Can you please complete the consent form and return to
your class teacher. (These are attached)

A reminder to parents and carers that the school will be closed to all children on Thursday 17th
