 E-portfolios (Learning) - simplified
Showcase or Presentation    Enables the student/author to share examples of their
                            work which may be in specific collections for differing
       Portfolio            purposes.
                            It may be published to the web (or other 'e' environment),
                            burnable to CD/DVD or may allow DTP printable versions.

Qualification or evidence   Evidence gathering for formal qualification validation.
                            Requires external authentication of held records and
        Portfolio           provides the e-assessment interface.
    + Transcript folio      This may also contain the student's qualification history.

Learning or Development     Personal Development Planning (PDP) provides the
                            students' learning plan with identified goals and learning
        Portfolio           outcomes.
                            Interface may allow support and feedback from peers,
                            mentors, coaches and tutors.


    Lifelong learning       This is the student's continuing professional development
                            area. It provides summary information on a timeline.
   Summary Portfolio        This may include a CV generator.


  Transaction Portfolio     This area is for the student's eyes only. Enables capturing
                            and editing of information before posting into another
                            area.
                             Contains personal diaries, journals and 'Blog' information.
                            Information filing and retrieval utilities.

•    Mirror the learning process and offer reflection.
•    Be personalised, owned and valued
•    Be owned largely by the learner
•    Enable learners to view distance travelled and
     support ongoing aims and objectives.
•    Support transitions and progression within
     learning (for example when changing schools
     or sectors)
•    Be supported by all learning providers
•    Be appropriately accessible to the learner,
     practitioners / mentors, others …anytime,
     anywhere.
