Spartiates: Adult males over the age of 30, born in Sparta. Dedicated to the state and military. Periokoi- Foreigners, could engage in trade, but had no political rights, were heavily taxed and were subject to military service. Helots: Slaves of Sparta. Had no rights, and were ruled with an iron fist.
