Aims:

This course is designed to introduce participants to the operating principals of a
typical Steam Turbine.

The course identifies the major components and shows how these components
work together to convert thermal energy into mechanical energy.

Also covered are auxiliary devices and systems, speed control and turbine
protection systems, turbine startup, operator checks, turbine shutdown, and
typical operating problems.

Objectives:
   Explain what a steam turbine does and describe how steam turbines are
      used in industrial applications.
   Identify basic components of a single stage steam turbine and describe
      the function of each.
   State some of the operator checks commonly required during steam
      turbine operation.
   Explain basic procedures for starting up and shutting down a steam
      turbine.

Operator checks

 -using the over speed trip mechanism
    - gradual shutdown
    - shutting down auxiliary systems
