Mt. Washington Middle School provides services to our identified gifted students in a variety of ways depending on their
needs and areas of giftedness. These services options include the following:
Students currently have the option of taking three classes for high school credit while at Mt. Washington Middle School.
These include: Algebra, Geometry and Spanish.
Teachers also group students in academic classes in order to progress quickly if students are mastering the subject area
and to differentiate.
Opportunities for leadership include: principal’s round table, student council, beta club, mentoring at the elementary
school and with middle school students, student aide opportunities, etc.
Extra curricular activities also include: robotics team, academic team, honors and pep band, annual I-Leap trip, and
participating in the Duke Talent Search for those who qualify.
In the past we have also had occasions where we have pulled our gifted students together to discuss topics specific to
them such as learning styles, what it means to be gifted etc.
