The Business Unit Renewable Resources

Separation. Solution. Success.

Mechanical Separation / GEA Westfalia Separator

Linking Knowledge –

the New Business Unit Renewable Resources

For many companies in a wide range of industries, renewable resources are an unparalleled opportunity

for the future. They are responsible for providing food for the world’s population, they substitute fossil

fuels and they can be used for developing entirely new products, creating the basis for future innovative

processes. However, all this requires ideas and visions. GEA Westfalia Separator has created its new Business

Unit Renewable Resources in order to develop and implement such visionary concepts within an optimum

infrastucture.

It is the centre of competence for optimizing tried-and-tested separating processes while simultaneously acting

as a competent partner for developers and pioneers of our age who create entirely new products and who are

searching for appropriate processes to realize them.

With our know-how gained from recovering and processing oils and fats, starch and proteins, fermentation

products and biofuels, we are thus able to offer our customers the advantages they need to give them a crucial

competitive edge: process know-how and development from a single source for optimum added value throughout

the entire life cycle.

Whatever Direction

You Choose ...

.....We Will Support You

Food

In the fields of starch, proteins, fermentation products, oils and fats, our broadly based portfolio already provides

the most efficient separating solutions available on the market.

But we are also consistently moving forward to further strengthen the competitiveness of our customers with

machines and processes precisely customized to your needs.

All the Way!

Biofuels

For many years, GEA Westfalia Separator has been successfully supporting the production of high-quality biodiesel and bioethanol

from renewable resources with stand-alone machines right through to the installation of complete process lines.

In cooperation with science, research and industry, we are not only working towards improving the efficiency of existing pro-

cesses; we are also focusing on the technical and economic utilization of renewable energies of the second and third generations,

for instance biomass on the basis of cellulose.

Tradition You Can Build On –

a culture of innovation which also accompanies you in future

Whether your requirement is to minimize the consumption of fresh water in olive oil production,

gentle treatment of fragile algae cells, continuously improving added value in industrial starch

production or the production of extremely pure proteins: sustainable productivity improvement

in the processing of renewable resources has been our focus in the past, and will continue to be

so in future.

By bundling know-how in the new Business Unit Renewable Resources, we are expanding and

improving the means of exploiting renewable resources for more efficient material and energy

management, and at the same time opening up new possibilities of boosting earnings in tradi-

tional areas.

Spotting Potential –

new fields of profit for a sustainable future

The finite nature of fossil fuels is compelling us to look for new solutions to obtain fuels and other industrial

products. The new Business Unit Renewable Resources provides intensive support to users who are planning

new products and processes – from the initial laboratory-scale test and the pilot phases right through to the

installation of industrial-scale plants.

In the preliminary phase of product development, our experts determine whether the required quality of

new recipes can also be attained on an industrial scale and which capacity ranges are realizable with our separat-

ing technology. In this way, investors shorten the time to market, and are aware at an early stage of the budgets

which will be necessary for optimum production right from the very beginning.

Economy and Ecology –

responsible handling of water

The processing of renewable resources also requires the use of

wash water and process water.

Modern solutions of GEA Westfalia Separator keep the demand

for fresh water as low as possible and thus make a major con-

tribution to the success of an investment in economic and also

in ecological terms.

Our customers thus benefit in two ways: yields are increased,

and the volume of waste water is reduced.
