Bar Graphs: Interactive Exercise: Grade 7 Mathematics Resource ID : ELO1033210 Description : Interactive LO. Audio narrative. Read-along with mouse-overs. Exposition followed by interactive graphing activity. Self-marking. Students have difficulty graphing and remebering what is involved in doing a neat accurate graph. This will introduce the concept of bar graphs. In this activity the students will learn how to do a bar graph using hypothetical information. It will take them through the stages fron start to finish and then they will create their own. It will prepare them with solid fundamentals for future work in advanced graphing and statistical analysis by emphasizing neatness and accuracy. Integer Multiplication Grade 7 Math Resource ID : ELO1033260 Description : In this interactive LO, students will learn and apply the rules of integer multiplication. Students can sometimes experience difficulty remembering the somewhat complex set of rules that are applied in the multiplcation of integers. A clever game-oriented analogy involving "teammates" and "opponents," clarifies these rules in an appealing grade-approrpiate way that will encourage students to remember the rules, and apply them successfully in their work. Interactive Tutorial Grade 8 Resource ID : ELO1033460 Description : Students will be shown two rules to help them multiply and divide integers. They will then have the opportunity to answer several questions on their own. Keywords : negative, positive, differentiations, numbers, charges, polarity, superscripts, values, absolute, signs Subtraction of Integers Grade 8 Math Resource ID : ELO1033400 Description : A particularly vexing topic in mathematics pedagogy is the subtraction of integers. The oft-invoked concept of 'zero-principle,' while intended to be an aid to clarification, proves to be at times, much to the contrary, a source of frustration for both teachers and students. This interactive LO, developed to address these issues, works around the notion of 'zero-principle' by invoking a Hegelian dialectical approach wherein students apply the principle of polar opposites both to the integer charges and the operations performed on them. Put simply, students learn to subtract integers by changing the sign of the subtrahend and performing instead of subtraction, addition on all the terms. An exposition with graphics and audio voice-over is followed by a problem set, wherein students can practice step-by-step the change-in-signs method. Keywords : add the opposite, plus, minus, negative, positive, opposite numbers, addition, practice, exercises, interactive learning Measure This (MAT2L): This is a good resource for elementary resource (tagged for MAT2L but could be used for many elementary grades below this) Resource Bank ID: ELO1149430 - This learning object allows students to work on their measurement skills, including the choice of ruler and the correct interpretation and reporting of data. Resource ID : ELO1149450 Description : The students will gain a realistic idea of how well they can estimate amounts in a fun and accessible environment. They will be required to use mental math to multiply the costs of products. Interactive Graphing (MAT2L) Resource ID : ELO1149420 Description : Students will work through a demonstration of a linear graph on a Cartesian plane and then create one of their own, using real world data. This resource has also been developed for MFM 1P: Foundations of Mathematics[Applied]. Lemonade Stand (MAT2L) Resource ID : ELO1151990 Description : In this activity, students practice their ability to read and interpret graphs. They are going to run a lemonade stand for the summer to earn some money. Based on last year’s results (displayed in a table), they will be asked to determine the amount of lemonade they can expect to sell. They must then correctly determine the amount of lemonade mix and water needed to make the desired amount of lemonade. The students will use their knowledge of tables, ratios, metric conversions, and percent to complete the activity. What Does a Percent Look Like?
