Vision for Future

Reviews
Vision for Future Dr Rajeev Jain* Indian Journal of Psychiatry (IJP) has completed fifty years of its continuous publication. We are grateful to the distinguished past editors whose untiring effort has brought this journal to such heights. Online submission and peer viewing of papers and articles has made all process much easy and less time consuming. Electronic version of the journal is now available on website and recent journals are already available online. The wish of Golden Jubilee Celebration IJP, Committee to ask suggestions for further useful changes is appreciable. I would like that the front cover page of journal which is always having monotonous look with contents should be replaced by colorful pictures on theme pertaining the important events occurred in the history of World Psychiatry. The contents may be inside and first leaf after cover may have it. The whole system of Indian Psychiatric Society (IPS), Central Body of IPS and Zonal, State branches works in harmony but there is no link between Indian Journal of Psychiatry and other Zonal and State Journals. The journal of one zone is not accessible to the members of other zone as they are circulated to their members only. The zonal and other journals need to be reviewed by the editor of IJP and at least index of contents of different journals should be available in the Indian Journal of Psychiatry. Important articles need to be reproduced, as some valuable research work if published in zonal journal did not come into sight of all members of the society. Some back pages may be made available where letters of grievances about unsatisfactory services given by the manufacturers of different ECT, Biofeedback, EEG and other machines can be shared. Sometimes the poor quality machines and instruments are supplied by false claims of superior quality but as payments are made they never come to attend complaint and must be busy to sell another machine to another naïve doctor. As we cannot share this information on any platform they are least bothered. The Indian Journal of Psychiatry can publish the letter of such complaints so repeated cheating by the manufacturers can be checked. In the last but not the least I want to remember what Dr A K Agrawal our past editor has stressed in one of editorials that the Journal of society does not belong to academic institute and PG activities whose recent scientific research only has to be published. The aims and objectives must be providing solution to practical issues faced by those in private practice and working in different organization also. Dr Agrawal has felt in the same editorial that many thoughts and ideas never come to journal because many members are not so comfortable to write or speak in English. In many countries scientific research is reported in their own language. The multilingual diversity in our country may prevent it to apply directly in IJP but Zonal and State Journal can devote at least a section, which belongs to the language of its own members.    Consultant Psychiatrist, HIG-2 Gour Nagar, Makroniya,Sagar(MP)470004 ID jrajeev@yahoo.com Mob 9826097055
