Bill Brooks, Warehouse Manager at Bob Ward’s Warehouse Distribution Center was awarded an
“Employer of the Year” award at the Montana Association for Rehabilitation conference in
Helena, Montana on October 18, 2007 at the annual banquet at the Red Lion Colonial Inn. The
Missoula Montana Association for Rehabilitation (MAR) wishes to thank Bill Brooks and Bob
Ward’s Warehouse for the compassionate, persistent and career opportunities for disabled
workers in giving them a chance to enhance their skills and advance in their organization.
Bill has been described as a person who looks beyond the “dis” in disability looking for and
generally finding skills and attributes and strengths that will serve the needs of his company as
well as building the confidence of the worker. He has worked with all the vocational
rehabilitation providers in town including Opportunity Resources, WORCenter, Western
Montana Mental Heath, JOBS and the Pre-Release Center. Bill works along with us, contacting
us to provide information, to express a concern and to share in problem solving.
He is direct with workers, clear in his expectations of behavior and is ready to help, listen and
praise when praise is due and provide correction as needed. Even if a worker needs to be let go,
he finds some way to build their confidence and express a willingness to welcome them back
when changes have been made.
October is the US Department of Labor’s National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
The theme for the year is Worker’s with Disabilities: Talent for a winning team. Bill Brooks
and Bob Ward’s Warehouse are a great example of employers who understand talent and know
how to find the dedicated, long term workers in the Missoula area. For more information about
