HEALTH EFFECTS
Acute – Swallowed Corrosive. May cause burns to mouth and throat, nausea, vomiting,
abdominal pains and diarrhoea. Can also cause swelling of the larynx

and suffocation, perforation of stomach and intestines with
constrictive scarring. Mildly toxic.
Acute – Eye May cause severe irritation and corneal burns. May cause blindness.
Acute – Skin Corrosive. Causes severe burns.
Acute – Inhaled Severe irritation to the respiratory tract.
Chronic Prolonged contact with the skin by the undiluted product will cause
severe irritation and a burning sensation that will be delayed for
several hours.
FIRST AID
Swallowed If swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting. Rinse mouth with water and
give glass of water or milk to drink. Seek medical attention.
Eye If in eyes, hold eyes open, flood with water for at least 15 minutes and
see a doctor.
Skin If skin contact occurs, remove contaminated clothing and wash skin
thoroughly. Wash clothing before re-use.
Inhaled Remove from exposure.
First Aid Facilities Eye wash. Hand wash basin.

Advice to Doctor Treat symptomatically for acids. Contact Poisons Information

STORAGE AND TRANSPORT
Storage Precautions Store in a well ventilated place, out of reach of children. Large
quantities should be stored in a bunded dangerous goods store. Store
in original container. Keep container tightly closed. Keep away from
alkalis, bleaches and chlorine containing products, peroxides,
reducing agents, combustible materials, and ammonium salts. Keep
away from metals and metal salts. Prevent contact with aluminium,
tin, zinc or galvanised iron. Protect from physical damage. Clean up
all spills and splashes promptly; avoid secondary accidents.

SPILLS AND DISPOSAL
Spills & Disposal Disposal of small spillages only. For large spillages liquids should be
contained using sand or earth and both liquids and solids then
transferred to salvage containers. Residues should be treated as for
small spillages. CAUTION: Before dealing with spillage take necessary
protective measures, inform others to keep at a safe distance and for
flammable materials, shut off all possible sources of ignition.
