Architectural Drafting II/Honors Class Course Syllabus Mr. Grice A copy of this syllabus will be available online for future reference. I expect that students are familiar with the information on this syllabus, and it should be referred to often. I am looking forward to the opportunity of teaching your student in my class. With your support and encouragement, your student will be able to participate in all types of experiences that teach the general practices and techniques that relate to technical drafting. Since lifelong success depends in part on learning to make responsible choices, we will utilize a classroom management plan that guides each student to make good decisions about their work habits and behavior. Each student deserves the most positive educational climate possible in preparation for success after high school. Together we can help guide our young people in the direction of making good choices for themselves. The plan below outlines the student responsibilities and the consequences for my classroom this year at Terry Sanford High School. Please review this information with your student, sign the bottom portion, and return it to class for a grade. Classroom Expectations 1. Be seated and ready to begin when the bell rings. Continue with any previous day’s work that you have done. 2. No food or drink or candy or gum will be allowed in the classroom. If caught chewing gum, you will be required to scrape gum from tables or desk after school. 3. Bring ALL necessary materials to class every day. 4. All assignments are due when I as for them. Anything that is turned in after that will result and a 10 points penalty per each school day late. Students who check in or out or are in ISS the day an assignment is due must turn in the assignment to me that day – NO EXCEPTIONS! 5. Follow directions the first time given. 6. Respect people and property. 7. Clean up after yourself. Your books, notebooks, backpacks, and etc. are not to be left in the classroom. When you leave the class each day, pick up any trash around you and put it in the proper place. Push your chair under your table each day before you leave the classroom. 8. Do not move the computer equipment around on the workstation. 9. Do not write on anything in the classroom, except paper. If caught writing on anything but paper, you will be required to clean the entire room. 10. Be alert, attentive, and actively involved in all class activities. 11. Students are expected to remain seated in their ASSIGNED seats until the bell rings. NEVER attempt to line up near the door or move to another seat. 12. All school rules and county rules will be strictly adhered to in this classroom. That means no book bags, except mesh or clear as specified, no cell phones and any electronic devices of any kind.
Materials Needed Same as you will need for other daily classes. Discipline 1st Offense 2nd Offense 3rd Offense Verbal warning. Verbal warning and a call to parents. Disciplinary referral (write-up)
**Depending on the offense. I may choose to skip any level of disciplinary action. Students who repeatedly are a nuisance in my class will be punished to the fullest extent. It is impossible to teach a class when even one student is hindering the teaching process.
Make Up Policy It is the student’s responsibility to find out what work is missed when he/she is absent from class. I do not remind students to make up work. Each student shall check online or in their notebook for all assignments as they are given. All assignments due the day a student is absent must be turned in the VERY NEXT DAY the student is in school. Any tests or quizzes missed the day a student is absent must be made up with FIVE school days of the student’s first day back in school. Students may NOT make up work during class (mine or anyone else’s). To make up missed tests, students must come before or after school by appointment only. After the make up time has expired, students receive a ZERO for all assignments.
**Students will not be allowed to make up any assignments missed when unlawfully absent. Same make up times apply.
Headers Every assignment turned in must be labeled with the correct header. The student’s FIRST and LAST names must be used in the header. In MOST cases, it must appear on the top right-hand corner of the paper. See the example below:
Name (first and last) Date Period
Grading The 9 weeks grade will be broken down in the following manner: Participation* (online 10%
activities, class lectures, and etc.) Assignments (drawings, worksheets)
40% 25% 25%
Quizzes 9 Weeks Exam
* The participation grade is an arbitrary grade given by the teacher once per 9 weeks. It is based upon my own observations in the classroom – whether the student is prepared for class each day; whether the student is participating in the learning process; whether the student’s conduct has been such that he/she is disrupting me or the other students; etc. ** Extra credit is RARELY given – and when given, it is to the entire class. Do not ask for extra credit if you are not passing due to failure to complete assignments, or get a better grade on any assignment. *** Remember that your End of Course Test will count for 25% of the YEARLY AVERAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tutoring Do not ever hesitate to ask for extra help! Tutoring will be given by appointment only, and can be scheduled before or after school. I am normally in the classroom by 7:45am each morning.
