Pupils use what they find out to draw a pregnancy timeline using worksheet B2: 2.2(1) to
guide them. The amount of detail will depend on the ability level of pupils.

Ask pupils about what UK law says about abortion. After finding out what pupils think is the
legal position, give them facts about what the law actually says. Ask pupils to relate the legal
position to what they have found out about the development of the foetus. They could mark
on their timelines the time when abortion is legal. Ask pupils to prepare a debate about the
justification for abortion. They should be encouraged to include scientific evidence in their
arguments.
