The work of Kypros Nicolaides1 in London and 2 large

fetal nuchal translucency (NT) measurement. When
properly performed between 11 and 14 weeks’ gestation,
the NT can be combined with maternal serum analyses
to provide women with an estimation of the risk of
aneuploidy and other fetal birth defects.
This measurement is highly operator dependent.
Differences as small as tenths of a millimeter may
change the estimation of risk. Not surprisingly, studies
that have employed rigorous quality monitoring have
reported more accurate detection rates than those that
