                             PREPARATION OF YOUR LAB REPORT



Lab Activity: Observing and Classifying Types of Chemical Reactions
Over the next few lab activities, we are conducting five mini-experiments in order to observe examples of the
Four general types of chemical reactions and Two specific types—neutralization and combustion

As of today we have observed:

    (1) Single Replacement
    (2) Synthesis (combination)

On Wednesday, we will observe a

    (3) Decomposition and
    (4) Double Replacement

As you know, we conducted the first of these reactions: single replacement reaction AB + C  AC + B

Involving aqueous copper II chloride with aluminum foil

As is true in this part of the experiment, you will first complete the reaction equation, write it out in words, and
balance the equation. You will then write a brief hypothesis as to what you believe will happen in the lab based
on the completed equation.

FOR EXAMPLE:

BEFORE: CuCl2(aq)                     +           Al(s)              AlCl3 (aq)                +   Cu(s)   

Aqueous copper II chloride        +       Aluminum Foil  Aqueous aluminum chloride + copper precipitate 



PRIOR TO EACH EXPERIMENT, WE WILL BRIEFLY REVIEW THE PROCEDURE. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR WRITING
UP EACH PROCEDURAL SECTION.
