The Keith Rumble Awards 2011
Keith was one of the founder members of The Pioneer Spirits.
Known for his love of life and his happy nature, he would grasp the opportunities offered to him with
great enthusiasm, in spite of many challenges along the way.
The Keith Rumble Awards was Hertfordshire’s first annual Award ceremony, celebrating the lives
and personalities of people with learning disabilities or differences.
The Awards were brought to you by The Pioneer Spirits: an Action Drama Social Enterprise who
deliver key messages about the lives of people with learning disabilities through arts and
performance, and offer employment opportunities to people with learning disabilities.
Hosting the evening were two of the
Pioneer Spirits: Paul and Marie.
(Pictured right)
To start the evening, Mandy came to the
stage to celebrate Keith’s memory by
telling the audience three things she loved
about him.

Next was a presentation from ‘The Rumbles’ – a group of singing and dancing ‘Complimentary
Therapists’ who perform across Herts complimenting members of the public to brighten their day.
They performed four songs which were created by everyone in the Pioneer Spirits.

to make them smile, so for the last song Keith’s Auntie Pat came up on stage to be Rumbled.

Before the winner of the top prize was announced, it was time for a performance from The Health
Champions – a group set up in partnership with The Pioneer Spirits, Herts County Council HCS
Health Liaison Team and St Albans HCS LD Day Service - who have been on the road across Herts to
spread the word about The Purple Folder (health action plan) using songs and drama to deliver the
message to inclusive audiences. They sang a song called The Signs that Save Lives – and taught the
audience some basic health related signs.

The Keith Rumble Awards Personality of the Year 2011
∞
Of all the Award Winners Chris won the grand prize of the evening: The Keith Rumble Awards
Personality of the Year. Chris was selected anonymously by a panel of judges, made up of several
members of the Pioneer Spirits – the results were a big secret and hardly anyone knew who had won
until it was announced. Chris was chosen because he embodies all the strengths and qualities that
the Keith Rumble Award seeks to celebrate. Pictured above in his throne, with his crown and his
trophy, Chris – with his characteristic charm - gave a fantastic acceptance speech and didn’t miss a
single thing because he spent the night snapping away with his camera.

A fantastic audience applaud each
and every winner with enthusiasm!
Before the night was over, there was just time for one more performance from The Rumbles, who
had put together a Jackson Five Medley in honour of Keith who loved the Jacksons.

Keith Rumble Awards, making it such a joyous occasion, and
CONGRATULATIONS to all of the night’s winners!
