the 30 Annual Larchmont Run At Twilight (or RAT) Race will take place this Friday, Sept 30 , highlighted
by a special welcome and presentation by Norfolk Mayor Paul Fraim, beginning at 5:15 p.m.

“This year is a special year because it marks the 30 running of the RAT Race, and to celebrate we have
invited some special guests, including Mayor Fraim and many of the event organizers from past years,”
says Eric Peterson, this year’s race director. “Mayor Fraim is to going to present us with a city
proclamation recognizing the Larchmont Elementary School PTA for continuing this important fundraising
event for three decades,” adds Peterson.

ODU Athletic Director Dr. Wood Selig, this year’s Honorary RAT Race Chairman, will sound the horn to
start the first race at 5:45.

The Larchmont RAT Race began in 1982 as a fundraising event featuring two races, a onemile and a 5K,
through the streets of the Larchmont/Edgewater neighborhood and portions of the ODU campus.

The races are followed by a post-race “RAT Party” held at Brick Field, an ODU facility located at the
corner of Hampton Blvd and Bolling Avenue in Norfolk. The Brick Field is the starting and finishing point
for both races, and is also the site of the first Larchmont School, which was moved to the east side of
Hampton Blvd in 1930 as part of an agreement with what was then the Norfolk Division of the College of
William and Mary.

Through the years the race has raised thousands of dollars to support the educational mission of
Larchmont Elementary School, while at the same time promoting physical fitness by encouraging people
of all levels of ability to “join the RAT Pack” and take to the streets.

The race is also unique in that it is one of the few road races in the area that takes place in the evening
rather than in the early morning hours.

RAT Race director, at racedirector@larchmontratrace.com ,or 636-9219.
