NEW BUSINESS: Lindsay covered each of the competencies listed on the 2010-2011
FTCC Assessment Matrix for General Education Core Competencies. The following
information was discussed:
        1. The first core competency, “Communicate effectively in speaking, readking,
writing, and listening” target was met in the 2010-2011 assessment. The language was
changed on the first core competency to read “Communicate effectively using the
conventions of American Standard English in professional and academic environments”
as voted on by the committee. Due to the change in the language one measure was
eliminated from this competency. A quiz on reading and listening skills is no longer
necessary. This was the only change made to the first core competency for the 2011-
2012 assessment.
        2. The second core competency, “Use critical thinking to analyze problems and
make logical decisions” target was met in the 2010-2011 assessment and will remain
unchanged for the 2011-2012 assessment.
        3. The third core competency, “Demonstrate socialization skills that support
cultural awareness and a global perspective” target was not met in the 2010-2011
assessment. The measure used was a 15 question quiz written for a SOC 210 course
but was administered in a PSY 150. Because the measure was inaccurate for the
competency, a new measure will be created for the 2011-2012 assessment. In addition
to editing the quiz used for outcome 3, several measures for global education are going
to be added to this year’s assessment plan.
        4. The fourth core competency, “Demonstrate computer literacy” target was met
for the 2010-2011 assessment and will remain unchanged for the 2011-2012
assessment.
        5. The fifth core competency, “Demonstrate quantitative competencies” target
was not met in the 2010-2011 assessment. The wording of the assessment and
measure will not change for the 2011-2012 assessment but the committee will vote to
possibly change the target.

FTCC Form M-9 Revision 10/05/2010
Actions/Activities/Assignments before next meeting:
        1. The committee will brainstorm ideas for possible changes and/or additions to
the fourth core competency, “Demonstrate computer literacy” for the 2012-2013
assessment.
        2. Lindsay Lee will send an email to all committee members proposing a change
to the fifth core competency, “Demonstrate quantitative competencies”, target from 80%
to an increase of five percentage points. Committee members will be asked to vote on
the proposed change by return email.
        3. The committee will brainstorm ideas for assessing global education and
cultural awareness to add to the assessment of outcome 3.

Next Meeting: TBA

Adjournment: 2:50 pm.
