                  Description
• Hyenas are orange and

  black and brown. Its front
  feet are longer then its
  back legs. Hyenas have
  really big ears. Hyenas
  weigh 90 to about 190
  pounds. Hyenas are 28 to
  36 inches tall. The striped
  hyenas are straw or gray
  color with black stripes
  and long hair with big
  long ears. A hyena is part
  of the dog family and they
  are mammals.
                     Diet
• Hyenas are
  carnivores. The word
  carnivores means
  meat eater. They can
  eat bones and fur.
  The striped hyena eat
  garbage that villagers
  set out. They mostly
  go hunting in a group
  at night.
                  Predators
• Hyenas usually get
  killed by farmers if
  they are near their
  land. A few predators
  kill them but not a lot.
  People and hyenas
  don’t get along.
                   Habitat
• Hyenas live in Africa
  in the open grassland.
  Hyenas also live in
  rocky places they can
  easily find food in the
  open grassland. The
  striped hyena lives in
  northern and eastern
  Africa, India, Asia,
  and Southern Siberia
Other Facts
    • Hyenas make laughing
      noises when nervous or
      upset, and other hyenas
      growl, cackle, and rumble.
      Hyenas are the most
      common meat eater. In
      ancient Egypt hyenas were
      eaten and domesticated.
      Domesticated means
      animals that are kept by
      people.
