                 Annual Conference 2004

Send messages (SUM)
Different messages Annual Conference 2004

from SMU

                  Information alert

         Warning alert

                         Error alert
                                         Annual Conference 2004

Message status
• The user sending the message is able to
see the status of those messages next to
the associated UAL records on the SUM
  screen.
   – Message sent
      • Some other process is running on the user session
and the message has not yet appeared on user’s
        screen.
   – Message received
      • The message has appeared on screen but the user
has not clicked the OK button
   – Message acknowledged
      • User has clicked the OK button
                                     Annual Conference 2004

Closing user sessions
• There is no need to manually “kill” user sessions
running from the server any more.
• If you close an application with a message, the
user’s session will not be closed before the
  message is acknowledged.
• If you close application without a message, all user
sessions will be closed after the seconds
  countdown has lapsed.
• Remember that your own user session is one of
the sessions running – you need to drop your
own User Access Log (UAL) record first.
• The system parameter MEN_LOG_001 must be
set to ‘N’ to disable login.
• The process will close all client server sessions,
  but not e:Vision sessions.
                                      Annual Conference 2004

Delete referential integrity
(DRI)
• A new facility enabling an institution the
possibility to determine if a record
belonging to a particular entity can be
deleted based on whether or not there any
  existing records on other entities
  associated with it.
• This will prevent “hanging” records being
  left behind.
  Available from 7.1.1
(will require additional activation key from SITS).
                                Annual Conference 2004

DRI (2)
• The facility supplements the already
  existing referential integrity enforced by
  the application itself.
• The institution can determine additional
records it would like to enforce data
  integrity on.
• This facility should be used sensibly – it
will run additional scripts and may have a
  negative impact on performance.
DRI – Example (3) Annual Conference 2004

                                  DRI records set
                                  up for CBK

                                   If a CBO record
                                   is “hanging”
                                   from CBK
                                   referential
                                   integrity will be
                                   invoked
SQL script generated by the
application – run when a user
attempts to delete a CBK record

                                Annual Conference 2004

• DRI records can be created automatically
via the Entity Relationship (ERL) screen.
  This screen shows the relationships
between entities in the dictionary and the
fields that link each entity in the Entity
  Relationship Fields (ERF).
• Pressing the ‘Generate "Delete Referential
Integrity" (DRI) records’ button will create
the DRI records based upon the ERL and
  ERF records.
