                              Academic Integrity Contract

Summer 2011 AND 2011-2012 School Year

is a college level class for high school students. Students may receive
college credit upon passing the AP exam. The workload is very rigorous and intensive, which
requires hard work and dedication from the student. Emphasis is placed on critical and
evaluative thinking skills, essay writing, and interpretation of primary source documents. AP
Students are expected to read and study United States History independently and collaborate
with their peers as they prepare for weekly assessments. AP students are also expected to
perform with integrity in practice for their future academic and professional challenges.

To demonstrate academic integrity an AP student will do the following:

   1. Read class assignments and participate in class discussions.
   2. Study for assessments and work to improve during the year.
   3. Turn in assignments and complete assessments that are his or her best work,
avoiding plagiarism: copy from others or copying from the internet.
   4. Earn a grade that is a reflection of their academic performance without compromising
the integrity of their grade by cheating.

General cheating includes, but is not limited to, any of the following:

 plagiarism - in part or in whole, from the internet or an individual - this includes both
verbatim plagiarism and plagiarism of ideas (i.e. rewording another’s analysis and
claiming it as original thought) for essays, projects, or other assignments
 dishonesty during an assessment – copying or sharing testing or quiz materials
 acquiring test or quiz specific materials prior to an assessment

When studying for AP United States History multiple choice tests and essays, the following
actions compromise academic integrity and are defined as cheating:

 accessing and using AP Central, online resources, or other printed materials that offer
Free Response Questions or Document Based Questions that are published by the
College Board to prepare for an assessment
 accessing and using AP Central, online resources, or other printed materials that offer
multiple choice questions published by the College Board to prepare for an assessment
It is assumed that all students already have academic integrity and are able to honestly pledge
this commitment to their AP United States History teacher. Therefore, the AP United States
History classes will be operating on this premise

When any AP United State History student’s integrity is called into question, he or she will
receive a zero on the assignment, test, essay, or paper related to the cheating incident and a
referral with the consequences deemed appropriate by the Administration of Whitney High
School.

As a consequence of failing to meet the guidelines of the APUSH Integrity Contract, the student
enrolled in AP United States History will also be subject to additional measures

removal from the AP United States History class. This will be reflected as a
withdrawal - fail on their Whitney High School transcript. The student will be required to
complete his or her US History requirement to graduate from ABC Unified School District by
transferring to Honors US History (if possible and with the consent of the Honors US History
teacher) OR by enrolling in ABC Adult School.

I have read and understand the entire AP United States History Academic Integrity Contract. I
understand the consequences that may result if I demonstrate that I may not have academic
integrity.

I pledge to pursue academic integrity as I study United States History this summer and this
coming school year.
