Pre-Requisites
Study Plan

Adviser approved study plan must be submitted to
  the ECE Department before any other forms will
  be signed (e.g. Petitions, CPT, OPT, By
  Arrangement, etc.)
NOTE: Master of Science (M.S.) students are
  automatically transferred into the Master of
  Engineering (M.Eng.) degree program if study
  plan is not submitted by the end of Winter 2007
Study Plan - Continued

   Meet with Adviser (complete Study Plan
    form by Winter 2007
   Study Plan is a “living” document
   A grade of “C” or lower cannot be
    counted as core credit
   Must graduate with at least a “B” average
    (3.00 GPA) in all coursework

Master’s Degree Programs


   Thesis vs. Non-thesis


   Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) vs. Master of
    Science (M.S.)
    (Note: Automatic transfer from M.S. to M.Eng. at end of Winter
      2007 if neither a permanent Thesis adviser is identified nor
      a study plan is submitted)
Master’s Degree Requirements

Master’s degree students need to decide on a thesis or non-
 thesis program of study.

ECE 510 versus CORE courses


ECE 510 courses are:

   Special topic courses
   Are not CORE curriculum courses
   Count as electives
Credit Conversions

ECE 501 Research                        ECE 503 Thesis

   Credits cannot be older than two years
   Up to 12 credits 503 can be converted
   Up to 9 credits 501 can be converted
Pre-admission & Transfer Credits
for Master’s students

   Grade must be “B” or better (pass/no pass not acceptable)

   Requires Office of Graduate Studies form (i.e. GO-21 form)

   All credits count as electives (PSU and OSU may
    potentially count as core credits)

   Master’s students: Limit of 15 pre-admission credits; 15
    transfer credits

   No restrictions for Ph.D. students
Ph.D. Credit Hour Requirements

81 credit hours after the Bachelor’s degree:
  a)   45 - ECE graduate-level credits (i.e. MS in
       ECE)

  b)   9 - Graduate-level credits in a minor outside
       of the ECE

  c)   27 - ECE 603 Dissertation credits
Ph.D. Degree Requirements

PhD Comprehensive Examination


   A PhD student must pass the ECE
    departmental comprehensive exam within 18
    months after the beginning of the term of
    formal admission to the PhD program.
PhD Dissertation Proposal


   A PhD student must have a PhD proposal
    approved by their dissertation committee
    within 24 months after passing the ECE
    departmental comprehensive exam.
PhD Publication Requirement


   Journal publication (at least one):

      Publication must describe ECE 603
                Dissertation work.
Graduate Assistantships
No Scholarships available within the ECE Department

Research Assistantships

       Check with individual faculty members or ECE website
        (Research / Assistantships)

Teaching Assistantships

       Must be in residence for at least one term
       Must be full-time and granted “regular” status (i.e. not
        conditional admission)
       Selected by Department Chair and based by faculty
        recommendations

Check or forward your email from your CAT account (used to notify
  students of such things as changes in degree program, course
  offerings, internship opportunities)
