A MESSAGE FROM YOUR NEW JOINT DISTRICT COMMISSIONERS- Ali
Shynn and Laura Thorogood
Many thanks to all the “Essex Farmers” families who have made us feel so welcome as the
new D.C.s. Thanks to Andi Cleal for leaving the branch in such great shape. You will be
hard act to follow but we will do our best. Essex Farmers Branch of the Pony Club has
had a really busy and happy year. Our members have had many personal successes over
the past year. These range from achievement badges through the pony club tests,
competing for the branch and representing the branch at area level. We have also seen
some outstanding achievements at camps and rallies. Well done to all of you who have
achieved a personal best.
The highlights of the year were the camps, as usual. Thanks to all the volunteers who
made them happen and the campers who make them so much fun. On a global level (well
just area 8 really) we have performed well. The mounted games team did well at the
championships, and our show jumping and eventing teams had a positive educational
experience. We had a great Gosling Cup with numerous placings, double clears, and team
awards. Please click GC for the full story.
In the near future we have a number of rallies planned. Please support them if you can.
We are trying to cater for everyone so if you would like to be involved with something not
listed please contact Ali or Laura. Please keep a close eye on the website for updated info.
Anderley and Evie work really hard to keep the website informative and entertaining.
PLEASE WE REALLY NEED YOU TO SEND INFO. PHOTOS. AND
ANYTHING YOU THINK WOULD ENTERTAIN FELLOW MEMBERS. ITS
THERE FOR YOU!
IMPORTANT GENERAL REMINDERS
Please take your pony’s droppings and any litter home with you at the end of rallies. We
rely on the good will and generosity of our hosts and it is essential that we leave a venue as
we found it.
Please send separate cheques for each rally with the slip at least one week before. Cheques
can be post-dated for the relevant rally.
A number of members are not wearing the correct dress to rallies. Details of this are on
the website. Only Pony Club polo shirts or rally dress is permitted at training sessions. If
you have any queries please call Ali Shynn.
Essex Farmers clothing is now available from Nicky Nunn. Nicky will shortly be posting a
clothing order form on the website showing our stock and prices. Tel. Nicky on 07765
255498 or e-mail her on email@example.com
HUNTER TRIAL AT GREAT GRACES on October 17th. We have been incredibly
lucky to be invited back to Great Graces. This is our first open event and these
competitions are very important to the branch. They offer our members a chance to
compete against other people and they bring in the revenue to enable us to hold the camps
and invest in equipment etc. All members are catered for. XC for those confident at 2’3”
and clear round SJ for our younger members. Why not come and jump a clear round and
then fence judge? The schedule accompanies this newsletter and is also available on the
website. We need lots of help with jump judging and marshalling on the day. Please ask
your friends if they could manage a few hours. Jump judging is good fun, anyone from 18
upwards can manage it, and you will be fed and watered. Please e-mail Nikki Morrell at
Nicola.firstname.lastname@example.org with offers of help or call her on 07800 566643 as
without you the event cannot go ahead.
HUNTER TRIAL AT ISLEHAM –September 26th . We would like to send teams to
contest the Gerry Webster Trophy and the Wilkinson Sword. Please contact Laura
Thorogood if you would like to be considered for the teams. All three courses will be
meaty and technical but well built and educational. The Gerry Webster competition is over
a 2’6” course and the Wilkinson Sword requires two to jump at 2’11” and two to jump at
3’4”. Laura looks forward to hearing from you.
On September 18th the Rally at Great Graces will also include a parent work party on the
cross country course. We urgently need a chainsaw and operator to help remove fallen
trees and parents with large petrol strimmers, preferably with disc cutter attachments. Can
all parents please come with loppers, shears, gloves etc. if you don’t have chainsaws and
strimmers. If you are unable to attend but would like to help there are additional work
parties on Tuesday September 14th from 6.30 til 8 p.m. and Tuesday September 21st

correct way of going in all three paces. We shall develop our knowledge of lateral work to
help balance and suppleness. We shall practise gymnastic figure work to develop the

There are brilliant detailed write ups about the Gosling Cup from Rosie Holder and Area

Oxlade, Annabel Stacey. Team C - Dan Little, Annabel Bates, Lucy Salter, Bethany Page.
Essex Farmers A were placed 2nd overall and Essex Farmer B were 6th overall.

Novice and Intermediate team. The Novice team members were Jordan Shynn, Pippa
O’Riley, Georgina Winfield, Annabel Stacey, Ebony Hornett. The Intermediate team was

was held with riders from America, Canada, Australia and t he U.K. The riders chose three
of our team’s ponies, Jack, Emmy and Indy for use in the competition. Our riders were
presented with flags with pins from America, fly protectors from Canada and Sophie
Bennett got a numnah from her Canadian rider.
Well done to all our representative riders and a special mention to their coaches for hours
of planning, preparation and support, making Essex Farmers proud.
