and introduce them to other members of the University community. You’ll have the

many donors who made it possible for us to honor these former student athletes who

    CBT-Goers Invited to Celebrate
    OMA’s 35th Anniversary
The Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) will be celebrating 35 years of helping Syracuse University become a welcoming place
for every student who enrolls. Founding director Barry L. Wells and current director James K. Duah-Agyeman are inviting the many
alumni who were touched by OMA and who helped OMA touch others to come help celebrate this milestone.

A letter of invitation from Barry L. Wells
    Dear Alumni:

Syracuse University will have its tenth Coming Back Together reunion this fall as we celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA),
which began life as the Office of Minority Affairs in 1976. As founding coordinator of that office, let me extend sincere greetings to all who have served and
benefited from OMA over the years. I want to invite all of you to attend CBT X. The joy of meeting with your old friends, classmates, counselors, mentors, and
faculty after such a long time will surely be complemented by opportunities to forge new ties.

Since 1976, OMA has provided an array of high quality services and programs to meet the unique needs of SU’s students of color, enduring and persevering
through numerous changes. Since 1997, OMA has undergone a remarkable period of positive growth and development under the outstanding leadership provided
by Dr. Irma Almirall-Padamsee and Dr. James Duah-Agyeman. CBT X will provide you with the ideal opportunity to learn what has been accomplished during these

As alumni, you are an essential part of SU’s history and a vital component of its ongoing community. You have done well and Syracuse couldn’t be more proud
of your successes or more grateful for your contributions. I believe we strengthen OMA’s foundation and assure its continuing influence by commemorating its
history, connecting with one another, and celebrating those upon whose shoulders we stand.

I hope you make a real effort to come back to visit your alma mater and celebrate OMA’s 35th anniversary.

A letter of invitation from James K. Duah-Agyeman
    Dear Alumni:

On behalf of the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA), I welcome each of you to return to your alma mater for CBT X. As you are aware, OMA was founded for
students by students through your courageous activism. OMA continues to thrive with the active involvement of our current students, many of whom call OMA,
their “home-away-from-home.” Please visit our office—it remains your office—at 105 Schine Student Center during reunion weekend to engage our staff and
students in discussions about our current programs, including Conversations About Race and Ethnicity (CARE), WellsLink Leadership Program, Verbal Blend (a
spoken word program), Dimensions (our peer mentoring program for women of color), Multicultural Empowerment Network (MEN), Multicultural Living Learning
Community (MLLC), and Native Student Program. We are particularly excited to tell you about our new initiative, the African Roots Study Abroad Program in
Ghana, a collaboration with SU Abroad, which we will launch in Summer 2012.

I want to take this opportunity to cordially invite all CBT participants to a breakfast in your honor at OMA on Friday, September 23, 8–10 AM. Please join us in
celebrating our mutual accomplishments in creating and sustaining an Office of Multicultural Affairs that meets the needs of students of color. Together, we can
shape the future for our students at Syracuse University.

Lynn F. Jemmott ’69 (1948-2010)

Lynn F. Jemmott, beloved daughter, wife, mother, scholar, and a valued contributor to many
communities, succumbed to arterial lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease.
She died peacefully in her sleep.

Born Lynn Frances in East Orange, New Jersey, she grew up in a home where excellence and
education were stressed. Her early love of learning led her to follow her mother’s path into
the teaching profession. She completed a bachelor’s degree with a dual major in English and
education at Syracuse University and pursued graduate work at Teacher’s College of Columbia
University, where she earned two master’s degrees and a doctorate in education and educational
administration. Dr. Jemmott taught English and was a guidance counselor in Englewood, New
Jersey, schools for more than 30 years. She served in a number of administrative directorships
and as principal of Lincoln School. Outside her work for the Englewood school system, she served
as chief administrator and school director for the New Horizons Community Charter School in
Newark and was a faculty member at Ramapo College and Mahwah College. She was a program
director at the Center for Effective School Practices at Rutgers University. Dr. Jemmott concluded
her professional career as an administrator at The Weekday School of Riverside Church in New
York City. Throughout her life, she took special pleasure in teaching outside of conventional school
settings, tutoring neighborhood students to help them improve their reading and writing skills and
helping them master the college application process. Public spirited and politically active, Dr.
Jemmott sat on several governing boards and was active in such organizations as the American
Association of University Women and the National Association of Elementary and Secondary
School Principals. She was a dedicated Delta Sigma Theta. Her other interests included traveling, Lynn F. Jemmott ’69 (1948-2010) and her daughter Dara Lynn ’04
Zumba dance, language study, bid whist, and singing, which she did for many years with the

Lynn F. Jemmott is survived by her children Dara Lynn ’04 and Hensley Barton, and by thousands of
students whose lives she touched.

During the Syracuse Eight on-campus tribute in Fall 2006, it was announced that a scholarship fund
would be established in the group’s name and an initial goal of $50,000 was set. A committee was
formed under the leadership of Art Monk ’80, including members Gregory L. Allen ’72, David Bing ’66,
Peter J. Estrada ’82, Daryl J. Gross, Carmen Harlow ’78, John L. Johnson, Floyd Little ’67, John Lobon ’73,
Larry Martin, Angela Y. Robinson ’78, Diane M. Weathers ’71, Barry L. Wells, and Roosevelt R. “Rick”

who responded, we have exceeded the $50,000 mark and the first Syracuse Eight Scholarship will be
    awarded this coming academic year.

Once again, Syracuse University alumni have stood tall. Stand with us as we work to build the
endowment to benefit our students and to honor our fellow alumni who took a stand.
