RE: Notification Requirement per Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act
Idaho Falls School District 91 is required by 40 CFR Part 763.84, the Asbestos Hazard
Emergency Response Act (AHERA) to “ensure that short term workers (e.g. phone repair
workers, utility repair workers, or exterminators) who may come in contact with asbestos
in a school are provided information regarding the location of asbestos containing
building material (ACBM) and suspected or assumed ACBM.”
The following District 91 buildings contain known or suspected asbestos containing
materials: A.H. Bush Elementary; Dora Erickson Elementary; Edgemont Gardens
Elementary; Emerson Elementary; Ethel Boyes Elementary; Hawthorne Elementary;
Linden Park Elementary; Longfellow Elementary; Templeview Elementary; Westside
Elementary; Theresa Bunker Elementary; Clair E. Gale Jr. High; Eagle Rock Jr. High;
Idaho Falls High Complex; Skyline High; Emerson High, Relocatable Modular
Classrooms E1-E2, A1-A2, H1-H2, J, C1-C2; Administration Office; Maintenance and
Operations Building; Administration Annex; Warehouse; New Sweden Storage; York
Storage.
Each of the above named buildings has an Asbestos Management Plan (AMP) that is
available for review. The AMP is located in the Head Custodian’s office for each school
or RMC, in the Superintendents’ office for the Administration Building, in the
Warehouse Office for the District Warehouse, and in the office of the Environmental,
Safety & Health Engineer for the remaining buildings. The Maintenance and Operations
Plan, Section IV of the Asbestos Management Plan describes how ACM is contained and
maintained to ensure the environment in each building is kept safe.
Principals, Directors and Supervisors or their designees are required to instruct any
outside contractor, repairman, etc. who may come in contact with, or disturb, asbestos
containing material or suspect asbestos containing material in an Idaho Falls School
District 91 building, to first review with them the locations of ACM for that building.
