       A CUMBRIA CONSTRUCTION BEST PRACTICE CLUB LAUNCH EVENT
                               BEST VALUE PROCUREMENT!

You are invited to attend the first event organised by the Cumbria Construction
Best Practice Club. The Club’s launch event will concentrate on how to get the
best value from procurement within your organisation.

SPEAKER: Andrew Thomas, Operations Director, Centre for Construction Innovation North
West (CCI NW).
Andrew was awarded a Best Practice Promoter award in 2000 by the CBPP for the work and
commitment in supporting the delivery of the Construction Best Practice Program, and directs the
activity of CCI NW and its team.
CCI NW work closely with Industry and clients in the promotion and adoption of Rethinking Construction
principles into process and culture. CCI are Constructing Excellence in the NW and Andrew has served
on the National Board of Constructing excellence since 2004.
CCI support the regional ODPM Centre of Procurement Excellence and work extensively with the North
West Regional Development Agency, URC's and strategic bodies and public clients on modernising
construction methods and tools.
Andrew serves on the Elevate Strategic Construction Board (the East Lancs Housing market renewal
fund pathfinder) and CCI have assisted in procurement of their frameworks and capacity building
programmes.

SPEAKER: Alan Webb, Contracts Manager, Capita Symonds, Carlisle.
Alan’s role within the Environment Unit of Capita Symonds Infrastructure Division in Carlisle is to act as
a source of expertise on construction procurement matters for both clients and colleagues. Alan also
provides advice on conditions of contract for construction works and contractual issues that may arise
during the construction phase of projects.
Alan has a number of years experience of procuring construction works on behalf of the public sector
and actively promotes the adoption of Rethinking Construction principles to clients.

SPEAKER: Jim White, Programme Manager, Economic Development, Cumbria County Council
Jim has been acting as client on behalf of Cumbria County Council for the procurement of regeneration
projects.
Cumbria County Council recognise the advantages of adopting the principles of rethinking construction.
Jim has been part of the team that have integrated these principles into live projects.
