Michael Urie: “More Drama” on ‘Ugly Betty’

Is the popular ABC comedy going darker? Well, not entirely. But Ugly Betty star Michael Urie says there’s going to be quite the radical change in the upcoming season of the show. Of course, that involves plenty of scheming from his character, Marc St. James, and Wilhelmina Slater (Vanessa Williams). On an interview with magazine In2Town, the 29-year-old actor revealed what we can expect from the new installment of the series, airing this October . “Well, there’ll be more drama now,” Urie revealed. “[...] Wilhelmina no longer has an easy way back to the top, so she and I will spend a lot of time figuring out ways to get back. I know Amanda will continue to search for her father, which is very odd and exciting.” As for the title character on the show, Urie admitted: “Betty will continue to try and figure out who is better for her, Gio the sandwich guy or Henry the accountant. That’s going to be a big thing. The thing is, I can’t remember what you know already and what you don’t know. I don’t know what I can say.” Michael Urie also had a lot to say about Marc St. James, particularly the peculiar fashions he wears on Ugly Betty. He wouldn’t normally refuse the wardrobes they make him don, unless they’re too tight or make them look like his head’s afloat. “I’ll go with whatever they tell me to wear, because it’s usually funny,” he said. “I mean, how many times do you get to play a character that’s funny before they even say anything?” All in all, the one thing he’s learned from his character was how to dress. With clothes being one major element on Ugly Betty, there’s no doubt Michael Urie would pick up on that. “I have learned from him, and I have learned what not to wear from him. And I’ve learned a lot from the wardrobe people, who are great,” Urie explained. “[...] I used to wear black shoes and a brown belt. T hat’s wrong, isn’t it? So everything I know about fashion I’ve learned from Ugly Betty.”
