workshop and will focus on the integration of CBLs (Calculator Based
Laboratories) in math and science classrooms. Activities presented in this

System is compatible with the Texas Instrument graphing calculators and may be
used to measure pH, sound, force and much more. Each participant will receive

     June 5 Title II -- ½ Day In-service – Math Workshop
½ Day Gearing up for Gateway
Limit: 40 Teachers (20 per session)
                                               Place: MCHS Room 304
For: K-8 Math Teachers (Regular Ed., Title I, and SPED)
                                               Time: 8:00-11:00 OR 12:00-3:00
                                           Presenter: Angie Shoulders
(Teachers have already registered for this workshop.)
The ultimate goal of this workshop is to improve students’ abilities to think
algebraically and solve meaningful mathematical problems. The immediate
goals are to teach elementary teachers about methods, in which algebraic
thinking can develop out of arithmetic thinking, and ways of teaching
mathematics, which lead to improved understanding and increased ability to
think independently. Students of these teachers should become better equipped
to apply mathematics to solve non-routine problems, and to learn algebra
successfully, thereby improving their TCAP scores and successfully completing
the Algebra I Gateway test for high school graduation. Each participant will
receive math manipulatives and activities valued at $50.
