As we settle into the new school year, I would like to take a moment to commend our students, parents and staff for an-
other smooth start! While I realize that this has been a very warm few weeks and we all dress accordingly, I would like
to remind you and our students that we must adhere to the CCSD Dress Code as outlined in the blue Discipline Hand-
book. Copies of the handbook went home to all students on the first day of school; if you did not receive one, please
notify my office and we will gladly send you a copy. It can also be found online at this link or at http://
The purpose of the dress code is to promote an orderly learning environment in our schools while preparing all students
for later success in the world of work. The CCSD Dress Code was developed through the direction of the Superinten-
dent and with the cooperation of parents, students, teachers, and administrators. While the Student Dress Code guide-
lines may be modified for students at the elementary school level, the administration reserves the right to determine if
items of clothing are too casual, revealing, or distracting or create a reasonable disruption to the school environment.
Consequently, I would like to address the following infractions which may result in a student being asked to cover-up,
change or be sent to the office:
Pants or shorts that are too short: they must be no shorter than 5” from the kneecap; wearing “bike” type shorts
underneath shorts that are too short does not make them acceptable attire.
Dresses must be an appropriate length: they must be no shorter than 3” from the kneecap; wearing “leggings” un-
derneath a dress that is too short does not make it acceptable attire.
Tops must cover the shoulders: tank tops must have straps that measure three finger’s width or more. NO spa-
ghetti straps or halter tops.
Cheerleader uniforms may be worn but warm-ups must be worn under the uniform while at school.
Appropriate shoes are important, especially for the playgrounds and PE. Therefore, we discourage flip-flops.
Please be advised that discipline for Student Dress Code infractions will begin next Tuesday, September 6. It is impor-
tant for us to be partners in all aspects of your student’s education and parents lead by example. Therefore, please be
mindful of your attire while on our campus as well.
We would like to thank you for supporting our policies as they directly relate to the value you place on your child’s edu-
cation. If you have further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
