Celebrating 14 Saucy and Spicy Years of Women’s Creativity
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Women. Sandwiched between generations, we lick our lips waiting
for a moment for ourselves as we zip our jackets for the nip in the November air.
Women’s Gifts has become an annual ritual for Western New York’s women artists. It
has also become a haven for the many followers looking for a unique gift item or just time away
from hectic schedules to relax and enjoy the company of other women and to hearken in the
holiday shopping season.
Women’s Gifts, a celebration of women’s creativity, is inviting the public to its
fourteenth annual show on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at the Church at Babeville, 341
Delaware Avenue at West Tupper, Buffalo, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Why a show by women and for women? No matter the circumstances, women thrive
because we have had to for generations! Women are the driving force in our families and
communities. Women also creatively solve problems at a moments notice. And the creativity of
women knows no bounds. That doesn’t mean that men are excluded from attending. Many
women bring their husbands or brothers or friends and they embrace the community atmosphere
that permeates Babeville.
According to Bernadette Hoppe, “What started out with only three women has grown into
a wonderful opportunity for our community to see and purchase beautiful merchandise created by
local artists, artisans and crafters.”
Two floors at the church will be filled with art, jewelry, paintings, frames, clocks, totes,
purses, journals, charms, fleece socks, ceramic tiles, photography, note cards, pottery, and much
more. Prices will range from $5 to several hundred dollars, so there is something to suit
everyone’s budget. Area musicians will perform throughout the day. Refreshments, served in a
space designed to serve as a café, will also be provided.
Sugar and spice and everything nice. Yup, you’ll find that too. From saucy and spicy
mustard to a nourishing lip balm to clever accessories, Women’s Gifts has something for
everyone on your holiday list – or even a gift for you.
The show also offers an opportunity for browsing and relaxing. “If people want to join us
and not spend a dime, that’s okay too,” Hoppe said. “It is important to support the community in
any way possible and we welcome everyone to come and see what we offer and to relax, listen to
music, wander around and take a look at what our artists have crafted.”
