COURSE DESCRIPTION:
A comprehensive review of practical experiences in men's and women's haircutting/styling (110 Hours) and
permanent waving, chemical hair relaxing, soft curl perms, and coloring (70 Hours) in preparation for taking
the state practical exam for licensure.

PREREQUISITES:

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
1.    Review and perform all barber-styling lab competencies/objectives in preparation for the LA State
      Board of Barber Examiners practical exam for licensure with manikins and in the school-based
      barber-styling shop.

         Tasks:
         1.       Perform appropriate cleaning and sanitation procedures for tools, implements, and
                  equipment in the school-based barber-styling lab.
         2.       Identify, handle, and care for tools, implements, and equipment in the school-based
                  barber-styling lab.
         3.       Perform facial manipulations and treatments, as well as scalp and hair treatments in the
                  school-based barber-styling shop.
         4.       Perform basic men’s and women’s haircutting/styling and facial and neck shaving, as well
                  as mustache and beard trimming techniques in the school-based barber-styling shop.
         5.       Perform permanent waving, chemical hair relaxing, and soft curl permanent waving
                  procedures, using appropriate safety precautions, in the school-based barber-styling shop.
         6.       Perform procedures for applying hair coloring tints and lighteners, using appropriate safety
                  precautions, in the school-based barber-styling shop.
         7.       Perform procedures for men’s hairpieces, as well as basic and advanced men’s and
                  women’s haircutting/styling in the school-based barber styling shop.


TEXTBOOKS AND OTHER MATERIALS:

ATTENDANCE POLICY:
Students must be officially enrolled in any course that they attend. It is expected that students will attend
scheduled classes regularly and on time. If an absence occurs, it is the responsibility of the student to make
up all missed work. Students who stop attending a course and do not officially withdraw will receive grades
of 0 for all work missed and will result in a punitive final grade.

This policy shall be superceded by any more stringent attendance policy required by a regulatory or
licensing body having jurisdiction over program requirements.

Attendance will be tracked and maintained for various reporting purposes.

ACADEMIC HONESTY:
Plagiarism, cheating, and other forms of academic dishonesty are prohibited. In addition to other possible
disciplinary sanctions, which may be imposed through the regular institutional procedures as a result of
academic misconduct, your instructor will assign a 0 for the exercise or examination that evidences
academic misconduct for the first offense and assign an “F” for the course for repeated offenses.
