     Chapter 15-4
        Types of Pollution
• Primary air pollution is put directly into
  the air by nature or humans
  – Includes car exhaust, smoke and fumes
    from burning objects, factory smoke, etc.
• Secondary pollution is a result of
  chemical reactions with other pollutants
  (smog)
       Problems Caused by
            Pollution
• Acid precipitation:
   – Rain, sleet or snow that contains acid from
     pollutants
• Hole in the Ozone Layer:
   – Caused by an increase in carbon dioxide and
     chemicals being released into the atmosphere
• Causes health problems for many people
        Cleaning Up Our Air
• Clean Air Act:
   – Controls the amount of pollution released into the
     air
   – Requires industries to use scrubbers to keep air
     clean
   – Requires automobile makers to limit exhaust that
     is released from cars
• Continue doing your part!!!! (plant a tree,
