“Getting to Know You”
5 x 7 index card for each participant
pencil or pen for each participant
paper clip or large pin
This activity is good to use with a group of people that don’t know each other well or at all.
Have each person write their name rather large in the center of the card. Have the
draw a line to mark off each corner and number them # 1 - #4. (It is best to have a
model to show them.) In Corner #1 write down a book or movie you really like.
Corner #2 Write a place anywhere in the world you would like to visit and why.
Corner #3 write down a person who is very meaningful to you and why. Corner
#4 write down a risk you would like to do as long as it isn’t harmful to you or
Be prepared to give examples for each corner as you tell them what goes in that
corner. Example: Corner #1 a book is Mutant Message Down Under Corner #2
Austria Corner #3 my mother Corner #4 fly with someone in a glider plane
Pin your name tag on to your left shoulder area. Stand up and move about the
room. Introduce yourself to each other – when I call time stop moving and that is
your partner. Share with each other Corner # 1. You each will have 1 minute
each. I call time in 1 minute and the person talking stops and the other person has
1 minute to share.
Call time and move to another partner. Share Corner # 2. Use same format as for
Corner #1. Call time again and find a new partner and share Corner # 3 or #4
(your choice) and give 2 minutes to share. Again you as leader keep track of time
to ensure each person has a chance to share.
Call time and have people be seated. Beginning with one person, have them
introduce at least one person and tell one thing they learned about them. Continue
around the room until everyone has been introduced.
