Dear Mayor Han:
On behalf of the citizens of Boston, I commend the collaboration of leading financial services firms from Boston
and Shanghai being launched by your government and CEOs and senior executives from our two cities in Shanghai
on November 19 and 20--and offer my personal support for a new partnership between Boston and Shanghai.
A primary mission of the initiative is the development of the next generation of industry leaders from Shanghai and
Boston. With opportunities to learn at leading universities and at the major financial firms in our two cities, these
global executives will have a deeper understanding of the American and Chinese cultures, traditions and ways of
doing business, along with the trust and confidence to establish their own new partnerships.
Boston is a world-renowned international finance center, home to the mutual fund and birthplace of venture capital.
Our leading firms represent a complete portfolio, from global venture capital and private equity investors growing
businesses and creating new innovations to the asset management and insurance firms that invest funds and manage
Boston, like Shanghai, is also well-known as a center for leading universities including Harvard and MIT.
Bostonians look for opportunities to share their ideas and vision with others.
It is my pleasure to reach out to you, Mr. Mayor, and endorse an ongoing partnership of our most important
financial services firms, as well as our universities, to support the future growth, prosperity and global leadership of
our two regions.
In closing, I would like to invite you to visit Boston whenever your schedule allows and allow me to introduce you
to our industry, university and government leaders.
Thomas M. Menino
